Had 3 EC all ok went on to 12 weeks C+P. (Carboplatin, Paclitaxel) liver count is high so stopped the P and just had C. Turns out its not P that's making my liver high it's the C.
Consultants don't know what to do with me as not had anyone have this reaction to the drugs before so treatment has stopped till liver is at a safe level
Anyone else had problems with chemo drugs like this.
Morning
Having raised liver function test levels rise during chemo is fairly common, that is why they check these prior to the next session. If they are raised slightly then a break of a week or two is usually all that is needed to get levels within the tolerance figure to carry on - possibly at a lower dosage to help avoid this happening again.
A more worrying aspect concerns liver toxicity which is a stage up from just a raised function level :-/
This is fairly uncommon but known side effect of Carboplatin and with this it means a longer break from carbo and a reduction of 20% or possibly stopping the Carbo altogether and finding an alternative instead.
There is a little info on this here at OncoLink under Carboplatin - Liver Toxicity.
No doubt there are some ladies around who have had high liver function level test results but maybe not with Carboplatin. I did a group search for Liver Toxicity and got these results you could browse through for now.
Do you know what your liver ALT levels were, or did they just say they were too high ?

This has been going on for 7 weeks ALT on Tuesday was 295 had MRI on liver 2 weeks ago just wish had left me on the EC XX
Hi
7 weeks, that is a fairly long time to left in limbo with IBC :-/
Was this 295 figure lower than your previous number, as a clue your liver is recovering ? Fingers crossed your MRI didn't find anything worrying.
C+P are both fairly hard hitters compared to FEC or EC - If they now feel the culprit was the Carbo they may be discussing continuing with the Paclitaxel on it's own after your levels recover.
Give them a ring to try and get an idea of their next move, be that P on it's own or back to EC. I'm sure they won't just stop everything indefinitely - You need some reassurence you aren't going to slip through the net.
