Hi because of COVID i have now been told that i can only have the one breast off as it's too risky with the COVID as any one else only been offered this as originally i was offered a lumpectomy but now they cannot offer reconstruction of any sort.
Thanks,
Gina x
Hiya gina62
I only had one breast removed but that was after 2 lumpectomies and the plan was only ever to have treatment on one.
I also had immediate reconstruction, ring and speak to your consultant or if you have a breast care nurse ring her,
Mine was a year ago so didn't have the COVID problem but you need your questions answered, have they said if you can have a reconstruction in the future??
Don't just do what you think they are telling you to do, speak to them and ask them what your options are.
Hi,
I'm sure someone posted on here last week that she'd had to have a Mastectomy instead of Lumpectomy due to Covid. You should be able to have reconstruction in the future, surely/
I had a Mastectomy, without reconstruction, my choice.
I had a single mastectomy in March, as I had 3 stage 1 lesions. If you have more than two areas of cancer, they won’t do a lumpectomy. So perhaps that is why the OP had one? Also you can definitely have a reconstruction later; I am planning to early next year.
I had a single mastectomy 6 weeks ago. It was meant to be a Diep flap reconstruction on 19 March but no reconstructions were being done. I was told nothing would be done until at least the end of June then on Monday 16 March I had a call to go into hospital next morning for mastectomy only. I’d never been to this hospital before nor met the surgeon who did the op...all because of Covid! It was a bit daunting!!!
Hi Gina
I has a single mastectomy 6 weeks ago and immediate implant. I was diagnosed with DCIS and thought I would have 2 lumpectomies but as the lumps were so far apart and I had a small breast it was decided to do a mascetomy. I think at the moment they may not be offering reconstruction but it should be available to you at a later date. Speak to your doctor or breast care nurses.
Good luck

Hi Gina
just had my mastectomy yesterday (awesome team of the Spire and my NHS surgeon) he was very clear that they are only doing essential surgery and nothing else. So no reconstruction or non cancer opsie the removal of my other breast for aesthetic reasons) as I want to go flat completely. He was reassuring tho that these other options would become available in the future (depending on Covid I g
ss) so I think that is the tack the NHS are taking for the time being, so there may well be a few of us lopsided ladies around I am comforting myself that only the cat beast and my husband who reall
don’t care will be seeing me
wishing you all the best for your surgery and recovery.
