Hi all,
with my surgeons suggestion and GP approval too, I’m going to swap Letrozole to Tamoxifen, to improve my bone health (already had mild osteoporosis pre-bc) as I’m now over 2 years on.
anyone got suggestions as to what brand to go for and any to avoid, please?
Stay safe

Hi moomy
For me personally I have never found any difference between the different brands, I have had several now - my normal one is Relon but I have had Wockhardt and other different ones at times. I have been on Tamoxifen for over three years now (had a break for about 12 weeks when I had DIEP reconstruction last year) and have been pretty much okay. I was pre-menopausal and chemotherapy put me into the menopause so I started with hot flushes then - so difficult to say whether Tamoxifen made that worse or not. My mum had Tamoxifen when she was 69/70 , it was before there were AI's , and she never had any issues. If you have to have any operations you do need to come off Tamoxifen as it can cause blood clots but I think it is pretty well tolerated.

Hi .
Hope this post will get through ?moomy's blog jowoomot
I was originally going to be out on Letrazole but yesterday my oncologist said it was probably best if I go on Tamoxifen .
What brands for you recommend , any tips and advice .
My body is already aching and I have had 3 bladder infections in as many months hence the switch.
I think she mentioned Novadlex ?
So grateful for advice from anyone

Hi PenelopeJ57
Like you, I had terrible aches and pains with Letrozole and Exemestane and got put onto Tamoxifen. I’ve had very few side effects over the past 18 months and have had quite a few different brands which are all very similar. Apart from this month where the pharmacy gave me Delpharm Lille (Lexon UK Ltd) - I can’t say for sure whether it’s the brand that caused it but I have had leg cramps and increased night sweats over the past few weeks. I discussed it with the pharmacy and they’ve put on my notes to avoid this brand in the future. Ones that are ok for me are Tilomed, Relonchem and Wockhardt, with Wockhardt seemingly the best by a whisker but it’s difficult to tell!
I haven’t come across Novadlex yet so can’t comment on that one. Best of luck and hope things improve with the change of drug!

Hi PenelopeJ57
I have generally been on Relonchem , but in all honesty I have never noticed a difference between brands - most people get on fine and don’t have any side effects , those that do tend to come on sites such as Macmillan and look for advice which may feel like it is most people , but in reality it is a small number . My oncologist did say that Letrozole is less tolerated and 20% of women can’t take it due to side effects , but Tamoxifen is much better tolerated. After 5 years I am still not menopausal so will now be in Tamoxifen for a further 5 years and am okay with that.
Best wishes

Oh thank you jowoomot. Great advice . I am 57 and was on HRT for 12 years prior to diagnosis in August . Both my tumours were oestrogen led so tablets went straight in the bin on the day I was given the news .
Since surgery my menopause symptoms have not been nearly as bad as they were thank fully .
For the last few weeks I have really ached and had the recurring bladder infections hence not starting Letrazole and going on Tamoxifen . It’s all a bloody great learning curve but fingers crossed it’s ok .

I’ve had a few issues and realised they had changed my brand of tamoxifen. I felt very light headed about 4 hours after taking and it lasted about 4 hours. I’m on millapharm brand. I didn’t get on with myla brand. I also take at night now too.
Right , morning everyone . Trying to get my head straight ! Ok , straightish !
My oncologist is prescribing me Novadlex brand of Tamoxifen .
Does that ring any bells for anyone ?
Many thanks for all your information so far .
