I was diagnosed with DCIS in January. I had a mastectomy 4 weeks ago with immediate implant reconstruction. Pathology results show I had a 30mm grade 2 invasive  ductal cancer which has spread to some lymph nodes. 2/6 nodes positive. Does this figure mean two out of the six lymph nodes show cancer? Have been told I will now need chemotherapy. Awaiting Oncologist appointment. Dont know when I will start my treatment because of coronavirus. Has anyone else been diagnosed with DCIS and then gone on to have grade 2 cancer? Is this something that happens often?

Hi, I've just been diagnosed with DCIS also, and its 28mm and grade 3. In my nodes also tho not spread anywhere else, thank god. I'm going to have my pre op next week then , I've been told my ops to follow shortly. I'm having a lumpectomy and removal of nodes... just want it done now. Always here to compare notes,

Hi Judy, thanks for your reply it was helpful to know someone is going through the same circumstances as me. It's the waiting for the results of my ct scan and bone scan that's the most difficult. Hopefully it hasn't spread and I just want to get on with the chemotherapy.

Glad that your pre op is going ahead and then your actual op. I appreciate that you want to get on with it as I and most breast cancer patients do.

Please keep me updated with you progress. I'm here for a chat anytime

Just checked my letter from test results and it says invasive ductal cancer so think I'm the same as you guys. I took a sister with me on one visit and a friend on another cos its amazing how you think you've heard everything and taken plenty of notes but some things just don't register! Hey ho!.

I was devastated when my lumpectomy for 2/4/20  was cancelled I felt really abandoned. I started the hormone therapy but that really didn't help with the surgery being cancelled. I've since had a call from my surgeon who now suggests a mastectomy due to the radiology units closing due to corona and staff shortages. Was again in turmoil as didn't want a full breast removal if at all possible.

Having scoured loads of posts on here though, it seems there;s plenty of folk who've had a lumpectomy then due to poor margins have had to go on to a mastectomy.

I feel a lot better now and not that I'm being not so much fobbed off, but given a short straw.

In less than 48 hours this site has been invaluable to me. thanks everyone!

I will stay connected to give you updates to my progress but more importantly to give support wherever I can.

    Stay safe all x

As your previously read I had a mascetomy due to invasive ductal cancer. For me it was the right decision and I dont regret it. I was fortunate to have an immediate implant which isn't always available to everyone. My thought was remove the breast. Unfortunately I will have to have chemotherapy. Still waiting for oncologist to contact me.

Really pleased you have found this site invaluable. I also found it helpful and have made friends with similar experiences.

Keep positive. You will all get through this.
