Hi, I had a mastectomy in March, and now I go back on Wednesday 8th April to see what is the next step....I was supposed to have the chemo etc before surgery but because of the covid 19 it was the other way round...I have read that chemo needs to start 30 days after surgery for it to be successful but I am worried because of the covid 19 whether to start it yet I'm in a right dilemma is anyone else in the same position? Sorry for the long post. Deb

  • Hi  , I think that they try to start chemo soon after surgery,  but almost everyone waits at least a month to allow some healing.  Chemo affects healing,  and you will find lots of aches and pains (especially if you've had your nodes removed) in the first part of each chemo cycle. The real issue (according to research) is if it's delayed 3 months

I had chemo after a mastectomy and both consultant and oncologist said to wait 4 or 5 weeks before chemo started to allow everything to heal as much as possible as chemo can affect the healing process

im sure both your consultant and oncologist teams will have spoken to each other and have come up with the best plan for you

take care I know it’s not an easy journey but you’ll get through this Heart️ stay strong and keep safe xx
