Has anyone had experience of pain after the end of active treatment, in the vicinity of surgery incision? I finished active treatment several years ago and a few months ago finally finished adjuvant therapy after nearly six years. Recently I have been experiencing a lot of tenderness and an aching pain across the whole of the area affected by my surgery (lumpectomy) - ribs, underarm as well as side of one breast. I didn't experience this during chemo or radio. It's starting to bug me! Any anecdotal info. greatly appreciated.
Dear ,
I sometime get discomfort and when I take a few minutes to think over the previous few days , I usually find the reason - gardening , different exercise, new bra even new pillow . But I would say discomfort NOT pain .
Pain is a warning , don’t ignore it , speak to BCN or call the helpline on here .
when I do aqua aerobics I sometime revert back to wearing a black bra under my swim suit , for extra support .
But I have also bought a secret support vest to wear when lounging about the house, just for comfort , instead of all the straps of a bra .
This is obviously worrying you , you are probably a person who doesn’t want to bother anyone BUT just you go and bother away .
the MacMillan helpline people are brilliant and you can either get reassured or told to see your BCN or GP and then you can call them and say “ the MacMillan helpline advises me to contact you “ but we shouldn’t need an excuse but it is easier and the BCN /GP will know without you saying anymore , that you have been worrying .
take care and be good to yourself
love

Hi ,
I agree, if this is pain rather than the occasional ache when you’ve done something extra, then phone your BCN. They’d MUCH rather see you and reassure than have you continue worrying! (And I've had that from them!)
