Hi everyone, can I ask how you are all coping with this virus, my daughter has a tea shop in our village and has lost £600 pounds in takings, people are not going ,in the shop’s are virtually empty and they are buying loads of toilet rolls. We do not have any cases here but people are panick buying, I know we have all been through this beast of a desease but this is just another thing to worry about.
Hi Boobylou,
I’m mostly concerned for our lass who has a clinically very low immune system following her decade of treatment for a resistant blood cancer. She, like us, are washing hands far more frequently and taking care with any contacts.
i have read about the panic buying, rather bad. And it seems to even have affected the financial world! Crazy.

Sadly I think cafes/bars/restaurants, holiday companies, holiday rentals, taxis, train, airlines etc are all going to be hit badly. Meanwhile supermarkets will hike prices, stop special offers . Suppliers will also profit from increased turnover. Farmers might start selling direct to the public !
I just cannot understand the sudden demand for soap. Were people not using soap before? Soap can easily be watered down and still be effective!
Hi
here on the east coast of Scotland folk still going out for tea and cake etc . We were out for lunch today and everywhere still busy .
Toilet rolls sold out in some local stores !!! Also bulk buying pasta and pot noodles !!! We live in the heart of farming community with tons of lovely potatoes , veg and eggs and lots of farmers markets ! No one seems worried but enjoying the panic buying !
weather has been spring like but today some rain . Hopefully spring , early summer will come soon and we can all be out in the lovely fresh air and on the beaches and Parks , where we can wave to folk and pass the time of day at a distance .,
my son messaged to say that silly panic buying in Cardiff has left no gluten free bread on the shelves as people are buying it as normal bread sold out !!!! He may have to bake his own !
I’m 64 and being tagged as elderly and at risk but when it comes to my pension - I’m classed as young and fit to wait untill I’m 66 for my state pension??!!
Keep cosy and safe and with super clean hands . But get out on the fresh air , while the others are staying in !!!
love

Sadly there are adults who DON’T wash their hands! Can’t believe the number of people over the years, that I’ve seen walking out of a toilet cubicle and straight past the sinks! They don’t wash hands after using the toilet! So just general hand washing after blowing their noses, is probably highly unlikely!
I think the sad thing is Children learn from example! If we as adults show them how to sneeze into a tissue and cough into the crook of our arms! They will do the same. But if they are seeing their own parents or other adults leaving public loo’s WITHOUT washing hands what’s that showing them!!
However sadly I think it’s probably NOT the people buying the extra hand wash that need to be buying it! This virus will spread because some people haven’t grown up being taught the basics! The saddest thing being, it’s not them that will be truly affected by this lack of personal hygiene! It’ll be others in their areas who are ‘at risk’!
We all owe it to our friends, families and local areas to be EXTRA RESILIENT in washing hands and following basic hygiene rules! Because that’s the only way to stop any of these viruses! Stock piling soap/hand sanitizer ISN’T going to help those who really need protecting!
Stay Safe Friends! Look out for each other. Sal xxx
Hi Sal @Londonlass
point is soap and water is far more effective than anti bac .Although it is very useful inbetweeny .
I have told our granddaughter who commutes from Caversham to Notting hill everyday and can't get antibacterial to do what I used to do when walking and am now doing again . I buy refill for pump action soap and fill little bottles up and use in conjunction with water wipes . So she can clean hands after train/tube .
I use anti bac or the above after leaving public loo as germs on door handle.. always have done .

Sky News have a young person's version of Newsround called OMG!, where they put a UV cream on a group of teenagers hands and asked then to wash then. They all washed what looked like well, but they all glowed blue, especially their thumbs and the ends of their fingers and nails. They were all taught how to wash thoroughly, think like a surgeon, washing each thumb separately, rubbing nails and fingers on thr other palm and the backs of the hands and wrists. Even then they all had a little around their nails. I'd say that 99% of people don't wash their hands based on that film.
Our school have thr foam sanitizer as it covers hands more easily, but I can't fool my little bottle as it turns to liquid in seconds. I think that the government really need to ensure suppliers of hand gel (1-2 per person?) as it's been unobtainable here in London all week. Luckily I found a couple of little bottles from last winter!
Anti bac is useless! Just water and rubbing hands is sufficient so carry bottle of water with you. Soap and water comes second

I make my own foaming hand wash as it's cheaper and kinder to environment and skin .
I buy Dr Bronner's 946 ml Organic Lavender Castile Liquid Soap and reuseable pump bottles to make foaming hand wash and these

Add soap to water (important to go this way what bottle fills with bubbles) You need very little soap and you get beautiful fragranced soft hands. Some people buy plain soap and add essential oils , I buy lavender or rose. If you add oils add to soap first.

Regarding people not washing hands in public loos my daughter who has OCD said they may be unable to as they think taps dirty from people touching after using loo and leave and use anti bac While we may all say this isn't good enough etc. a person with OCD is controlled by their thoughts, it's heartbreaking to watch. So maybe if you see someone hovering by the taps offer to turn them on so they can wash their hands. While accommodating OCD fuels it you can offer help in some situations. Don't try to reason with their OCD, it's pointless as they constantly think this time is different. Once in Tesco toilets my daughter was alone and had full on panic attack as no soap to wash hands . She said she was crying and frozen for about 10 minutes and ignored by another user. Luckily someone else came in and asked her if she was ok. She then got staff to refill soap.
The hand gel needs to be at least 70% alcohol though. Some have used rubbing alcohol and aloe. Doesn't the soap have to be rinsed off to remove the virus?
OCD is terrible. My youngest has it with symmetry. If she's feeling it, then touching one side of her like a pat on the shoulder, arm or leg has to be repeated on the other side. She has a big cleansing routine for her face, but has dry skin and is a teenager, so probably normal:)
LondonLass must admit sometimes don't wash hands as I just nip in loo to tuck my vest into my knickers or have a big trump ha ha
Obviously at the moment washing hands at every opportunity xxx
