Hi all, been a while since I came on here, reading through different posts brings it all back and feel for you all going through this trauma (because a trauma it is!!)
I am now 18 months since finishing chemo and rads and am on Letrozole. My question is: do the side effects get worse as time goes on? I am asking because living with all the side effects have been just about bearable however, this past few weeks I am so, so tired, so much more than usual. My trigger fingers are not getting better either they seem slightly worse.
I know we have to put up with these side effects to gain any benefit from Letrozole but I had been managing so well and now not sure if it is getting worse because of the Letrozole or there is something else wrong with me. Has anyone else been on Letrozole for over this time and is it affecting you as well?
I have had several different brands and the one I felt OK on was Accord brand however, my chemist has advised he cannot get this brand and am now on Dr Reddys which has been fine for about 4/5 months so don't think it is the brand (probably tried them all).
I have also noticed a really bad ache/muscle pain in my BC arm. Again this has just been the last few weeks. I thought I had either pulled a muscle or slept badly but it is continuing and not getting much better. Is it all related?
I know I need to speak to my doctor and BC nurse which i intend to do this week or next but just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Take care
Hi there,
I've not been on it very long, but wanted to say that my local Boots has Accord as the standard brand, so maybe check with them.
I was given Cipla at the hospital, which was horrendous! After 4 days I was waking up with frozen claws for hands and had lots off hot flushes and headaches. I changed to Accord which had been generally ok, though my ankles and feet are sore sometimes, I've been very dry 'down below', and grown a peach fuzz on my cheeks! I bought Sandoz brand in Spain last week and my feet are much better, though I've had done slight pain in my hands and they were frozen this morning. I've also had a very dry throat and tingling in my head.
If you were ok with Accord could you try Boots? I still had my prescription after Spain so collected 2 x 28 packs from them on Tuesday. Thr other thing I did at first was take then every 36 hours instead of 24, as the half life is 48-72 hours depending on the individual, and the research had shown that 1mg also works well, so I'd still have over that when I took the next one.

Hi Londonmumof2
Many thanks for your reply, I will give Boots a try and see if my local one has Accord. However I have been OK on this current brand up until these last few weeks and not sure if symptoms get worse the longer your on this.
Will also speak to my BCN
Take care and thanks again

Hiya,
I have been on letrozole for 2 and a half years. I have always stuck to the accord brand, sometimes I go to several pharmacies to get the brand. I have minimal side effects now, hardly noticeable.
Cwtches,
Gay xxx
P.S it is normally Boots where I can find the accord brand
Reading this, it seems there is a lot of praise for Accord brand.
How fast time flys, it feel's like eI have been here 5 minutes, yet it is over 2 and a half years years!! wow this time has flown.
I would just like to add, I suffered terrible with 'trigger thumbs' - I looked up ways to help and found massaging 'very hard' even running joint along the edge of the table seemed to help them ease off.
Aches in the hands, well, I am not sure if this is a coincidence or it has helped..... I am trying to get blood sugars down and have cut down, well at the moment actually cut out white bread from my diet and one thing I have noticed since doing this is the joint aches I had in my fingers has really calmed down. Is it a coincidence or is it something in the bread that irritates the joints.
I just wanted to share this 'in case it does help' - all worth a try.
Sending love and hugs to all xxxx
Hi taralou
I'm on Accord Anastrozole and have experienced problems in getting the brand. I wrote to Accord and asked who they are supplying and Activas Pharma are the only ones for Anastrozole who they are supplying currently as they are short of supply. I found out that Boots isn't Activas after I got one lot, but couldn't get them the next time (they must have had some in stock left over).
Superdrug are supplied by Activas if you want to try going back to Accord of your Letrozole. I am of course assuming that it's the same for Letrozole as Anastrozole, but it might not be.
If you are wanting to find out, email Accord as they are really good and emailed me back within 24 hours.
Best wishes,
Hi Edwina
I just love the fact that you can always find support on here. Like you I've not been on for a while having finished chemo and Radio nearly 12 months ago...where did that go??
Over the last couple of months I have had real body pains mainly my legs but arms too. I also felt fine with the Accord brand and I remember a thread on this site a while back talking about certain brands are known for the side effects.
Haven't yet spoken to the Pharmacist but will do tomorow.
Anyone else had problems with Letrozole brands?
Thanks
Bev
Hi ladies, a big thanks for your replies and support. I have just picked up 2 months supply of Letrozole ACCORD brand!!!! from my local Boots. I have started the Accord tonight so will let you know how I get on, watch this space!!!
Thanks to: Londonmumof2 for the advice about Boots; wombat.23 and moomy for your thoughts.
WhatHappened I think I might give the white bread up as well and see if it helps the joints, shouldn’t eat it anyway should have brown so will give it a go.
lesleyhelen Thanks for the advice about emailing Accord, I have dropped them a line so will let you know.
Baduki1 Yes there is always so much support here. The ladies gave me terrific love and support when I had my cancer, they were my saviours many a time and they are still doing the same for others.
With thoughts on the different brands of Letrozole I remember seeing on here people were saying the same thing about how one brand suited them better than another and the doctors/oncologists were just poo-pooing that there was any difference and we were just stupid women (not that they actually said that but you get the idea). So, I did a bit of research because at one time I had 3 different brands in the house. I compared the 3 which were Accord, Dr Reddys and Sun Pharmaceutical.
As expected all the essential ingredients/drugs?? were exactly the same BUT….. it was the coatings on the tablets that differed. No two were the same so it must be these colorants etc giving off the side effects.
Will keep you updated on how I am and again many, many thanks to you all
