Hi everyone....so it's nearly 2 years since i had my lumpectomy etc and my recent visit to breast clinic my doctor offered me breast reconstruction.....basically i have parts of my breast that dent in from where my invasive ductal tumour and dcis was removed etc.....he said they can use fat from stomach or back and inject it into area that is dented.
Anyone else had this done? Nearly 2 years after surgery?
Lots of love xx
HI Lucy-B
I'm going to follow this post for insights. I am in the same position as you as I had 8cm removed with the IDC and DCIS, so have a large dent. I am surprised that they didn't do it at the time of the original operation as I was told on the day of the operation by the surgeon on his pre-op chat "you will have a dent". Prior to this I was told once by a different surgeon when advised that I had BC "you may have a dent" and nothing was mentioned about reconstruction. It wasn't until I was signed off by the BC nurse and I asked about the dent that she said I could opt for reconstruction later if I wanted.
I'm going to be 3 years down the line in June. And if it's just a question of injecting fat which doesn't sound as bad as an operation, it's something I'd be very interested in - especially recovery time. Although I was back working within 2 days of the op. it took a whole year before it stopped hurting when lifting/lying on it, so I'd be interested to hear from any other ladies who've had this process and how long before they were pain free.
Sorry I'm not answering your question, but will look forward to hearing any others who've had this procedure!
I have an appointment booked for March for "Reconstruction Clinic" where i presume they will go more in depth about what happens etc. I will keep you posted as to what they tell me and exactly how its done......i told him i have plenty of belly fat so if anyone else is going through the same needs some fat I've got plenty to go around.
xx
