Hi there, one of my best friend just diagnosed with blood cancer, and afraid of painful treatment. Are cancer treatments really painful? If yes, then can anyone tell me some tips to cope up with that pain. So, I can share those tips with him to encourage him to get the treatment as soon as possible.

Thanks

    Hi

Sorry to read this, do you know which type of blood cancer as there are several types that probably have different treatments ?

Thanks for your response! He is diagnosed with Lymphocytic leukemia. Can you suggest me what would be best for him?

  • There are a couple of different types, discussed in this group.

If he's just diagnosed then chances are things are still at the information gathering stage.  Whether he needs immediate treatment and what type depends on that information.

I have a different blood cancer and haven't found treatment as bad as I expected (that's not to say it doesn't suck) but there are a ton of variables and no two people experience their disease or their treatment in exactly the same way.  That said, his team will be looking to prevent and minimise side effects.

I'm sorry to hear that you've still not found the treatment. Hope you'll find soon! And thanks for sharing the link, I'll definitely go through all of the discussions to check what would be best for my friend.

You're right that everybody has different experience even if they have the same disease and everybody responds differently to the same treatments in most cases. I am hoping that I'll be able to find the best options for my friend.

  • Be careful when looking for information online.  A lot of what you come across will be irrelevant, inaccurate, inappropriate, or outdated. Determining the best course of treatment for any individual person is complex.  Multi-disciplinary teams do it every day, while it tends to seem like voodoo to us mere mortals.

Thanks for your concern! It's true the online information is not correct always and most of the times it is outdated but sometimes there are some chances that we may find something relevant.

But still, I'll keep your words in mind and will look for a specialist for the best consultation.
