Hi.I had my first Docetaxel and Hercepin treatment 12 days ago.I start feeling general unwell on day 3rd and then on day 5 I become ill and end up in hospital with Neutropenic sepsis.Doctors also discovered bacteria in my blood.I was admitted to hospital and treated with 3 different anthbiotics. I have vaginal discomfort since round that time ( itchy and burning sensation).I was seeing by onclogy doctor and she said it's due to docetaxel and not a thrush. She gave me some creams but nothing seems to be  working.Aftet a week I contact my breast nurse and she told me to start using canesten as she thought it can be thrush after all but it made the symptoms even worse.Did anyone had similar experiences???Any help apriciated

  • Hi

i had some symptoms- lumps !!! Plus discomfort - I used nappy cream , ! It did the trick and I only had it the once - like you after admittance to hospital and all the antibiotics .
Speak to a pharmacist, it’s a thought but once you explain you have had chemo they are so nice and take you aside into their office . Or phone your oncologists secretary - they are brilliant and they will speak to your oncologist or hospital pharmacist.
hope you get relief soon .

  • Thanks for your reply Ruby. Unfortunately nappy cream was the first thing I try with no effect. Then oncologist prescribed Aquamax cream and hydrocortisone cream which gave some relief but not sorted the problem. Now they told me to try clothrimazole cream and pressary but that was a definite mistake as it made burning sensation worse.I am going to call my cancer nurse in the morning but slowly loosing hope.My next chemo is in a week time so I am worried that it will make things even worse.

  • Could it at least partly be due to the antibiotics?  If that's thr case then lots of LIVE yogurt.  Some people have even been known to put it 'down there's, but I've no idea about that as a plan!

  • I will try to eat more yoghurt not sure about applying it down there. I went to see my GP today and he thinks that's it's dermatitis :(.He prescribed me Aproderm gel and Daktocort ointment. Finger crossed as I am so fed up now

  •  Hi

aww not so good , do you get any relief - ie in a warm bath , when dry after a bath , think if I remember I used my cool hairdryer instead of a towel . If you keep dry with a little baby powder ? I use E45 emollient bath , when I have a bath and it’s very gentle and you don’t use soap . Go commando when in the house and in bed .

hope you get relief soon .

  • Oh and Natural yogurt “down there” is very soothing !!!
messy but soothing !! Buy a pack of toddler training pads or puppy ones JoyJoy to lie on in bed - they are good for all sorts - soaking up water when defrosting freezer ( if required ) also I put on my lap when doing my nails . So won’t be wasted xx

  • I had horrible pain during the docetaxel treatment. When I told my oncologist he just said it’s very rare, which didn’t help a bit. I tried Replens, YES VM etc and in the end just knocked myself out with codeine. I did see a suggestion that amitriptyline  has been prescribed for this type of vaginal pain so that may be worth trying.

I had a similar experience and found that the over the counter treatment for thrush. helped.Worth a try.

  • Try that already make symptoms even worse.
