Hello, I would really like to hear from any ladies who have undergone bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy surgery. I am especially interested in how your recovery was?
My gynae consult told me it would be a day surgery (surgery itself 1 hour). Afterwards I should rest for 2 days and could then go back to work (which is pretty much desk bound). Does this sound realistic to you? In fact i'll have 4 days recovery after surgery before returning to work (and I only work 2 days per week).
I am well recovered from chemo/mastectomy & TRAM recon/axilliary lymph node removal/radiation which I underwent last year.
I would love to hear your experiences and whether this recovery sounds feasible.
How big are your scars? Do they bother you at all? I already have a huge TRAM scar across my abdomen so the idea of more scars doesn't fill me with joy, but i'll happily take the scars if it increases my odds of sticking around a bit longer!
I would welcome any comments/feedback/tips you can offer - the good and the bad. I have found the online forum to be invaluable when making these life/body-chaging decisions.
Health & happiness,
SGMH xx
Hi SGMH,
I had this operation at the start of November. It was really straightforward for me. I was last on the operating list, so I walked to theatre at 4:30. I woke up at around 6:30pm and then I went home just before 8pm. I took some paracetamol for two days as it was a bit uncomfortable, especially when rolling over in bed. I also had some shoulder pain which they said is quite common.
I have two scars on either side of my stomach, a bit lower than my naval and they’re just over 1cm long. They’re still red, but I’m sure they will be fine when they fade. The camera went in through my tummy button and there’s a small scar there.
I didn’t work for two weeks, but that’s because my job involves driving and my consultant told me not to drive for two weeks. I did paperwork at home though and otherwise carried on as normal. You may well feel well enough to go back then, but see how you feel after the op.
Best wishes,
Sarah
