Hi,

I have just been told I have breast cancer this week..complete shock as I have no symptoms whatsoever and only found it through a routine ultrasound when being tested for menopause symptoms. My surgery is in just under 2 weeks, I have no idea what to expect and am scared.

    Hi Marie69

My thoughts are with you at this scary time. Can I  ask what your diagnosis  and treatment  plan  is? I was also in shock when 1st diagnosed last  August, however, i can now see the end of my treatment in sight.

    Hi MPnewcastle,

I have been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma..with a 1.6mm mass which will be removed in just under 2 weeks, I will be having a lumpectomy. My report also said I am Estrogen -/Progesterone -/ C erbB2 -. The doctor told me we will discuss treatment options after surgery..it’s so scary as I live abroad, I will be treated in a private hospital but it is all overwhelming and I really don’t know what to expect.
so glad you are feeling positive and the end of your treatment is near x

    Hi

it's perfectly understandable that You're feeling scared . It's the news no one wants to hear.

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy  on the 10th Dec and then a further op on the 14th jan . I didn't have any pain after surgery around the lumpectomy area at all. The scar is neat and tidy and will be hidden under my bra. My surgery lasted around 45 mins and was a general anthestic.  I was in and out the same day. Was given codeine and paracetamol for pain relief but the codeine kept me awake at night so managed it with paracetamol when I needed them. Which in truth I didnt need many. The physio may give you exercises to do , these really do help. I found showering a pain with the dressing on for 2 weeks but its manageable. My advice is dont google symptoms  stick to the breast cancer now or Macmillan sites for advice.  The rest of them scare you silly. You will of heard this so many times , but do try and stay positive. The main thing is they've caught it , and are treating you.  Take this journey day by day step by step. Hope all goes well for you.

    Hi Ju72,

Thanks for your reply, that really does sound encouraging and I am trying to stay positive..glad everything went well for you and you are on the mend now. I know what you mean about googling, I have done it over the last few days and I know I shouldn’t as a lot of the information is not right and does scare you even more so will stay off of it now!

Hope all stays good for you with your onward recovery, take care x

    Hi Marie69,

I was diagnosed with tubular breast cancer after a routine mammogram, I also didn't feel anything so was really shocked to hear I had a 5mm tumour.  I had a lumpectomy on the 16th January and a couple of lymph nodes removed.  I'm doing ok though, managing the pain and religiously doing my exercises three times a day.

I have an app on the 7th Feb to find out the pathology results and check my wounds etc.  As far as I now I will be starting radiotherapy in a few weeks along with hormone therapy as I am ER positive.

Try not to worry too much, I have been told my cancer is grade 1 and the prognosis is very good as it has been detected early.

    Take care

    Kay x
