Hi ladies can anyone give me information on having a lumpectomy with local ancestic having op next Tuesday 28th January can’t have general so has anyone had this op while awake i am a bit freaked out about being awake. Thanks jeanette49

  • Hi ,

has your team said they can do this for you? I would guess it MAY be possible but you’d probably need sedation? And yes I’m sure it would be sore in spite of anything they could do to prevent it. I’ve only come across surgery lower in the body (my hubs had a hip replacement with a spinal block) which actually was really good, but when I asked with my hand surgery it was refused. But actually that was pretty painful, for a good 24 hours, he was right!

    Hope you get some answers....

    Hugs xxx

Hi, I had a pecs block...or boob epidural as I called it lol. I also still had a general and the block was done for pain relief...and worked very well. I'm guessing the block might be an option on it's own along with some sedation.

Yes they said that’s the way they are going to do it can’t have general because of the chemo damage and the fluid from the lymphoma so I am not looking forward to it keep getting waves of panic trying to stay calm but not working at the moment, thanks for answering hugs jeanette49

  • Hi , there are lots of operations done under local anaesthesia nowadays. Hernias, lumps and bumps, skin grafts etc . As someone else mentioned you can have the nerve blocked as well so whole area is numb. What happens is they make the skin and first layer numb then when you cant feel that inject deeper.  So it might sting a bit at first but they can keep adding more. You will feel sensation but should not hurt. Dont be a hero make sure you ask for some sedation if your nervous. Good luck xxxx
