Hello ,

My Mom has mastectomy to remove whole breast . The tumour was 3x3x2 cm

They found 4 out of 13 Axillary lymph nodes in the removed mass  involved .

no Apiary lymph involved . Base is clear

Grade 2

Now doing ER,PR, HERS2 tests

then treatment plan .

Can any one advise any suggestions for further tests and way forward from their exp .

Mom is very healthy and fit .

Also has any one used oncologica based in Oxford who do gene based tests

Does that give good guidance in treatment .

thank you all in advance .

I'd ask for a CT scan to check to see if it's spread anywhere. I've had 2 on the NHS since April and having another soon. They're not cheap so NHS is best bet.

Right now ER , PR etc tests are being done .

If CT is clear then treatment would be based on ER , PR results .

But not sure how do we know the effect of treatments of there is no tumour left.

    Also has any one used

    www.oncologica.com ?

They test tissue and match the gene and treatments

not sure how harmone treatments can be tailored using their results

  • Hi

Generally the surgery is the “cure” for breast cancer , all other treatments are to help prevent the cancer coming back - after treatment there are generally no further scans etc , just a case of being aware of any changes in your body. One of the reasons for this is that minuscule cells can lay dormant and undetectable for years, so even if scams are clear doesn’t always mean that they are.

I have read up about the oncologica tests before and they seem to be very expensive , plus there are only so many treatments available and these have to be passed for use, so it is unlikely for breast cancer that there will be anything different to what your mums consultants recommend.

Are you concerned your mum won’t be give the best treatment ? Are you using the NHS or private treatment?

    Thank you !

Mom is getting private treatment . Radical mastectomy is done last week . Base of breast tissue is clear . No apical nodes involved . Four of 13 maxilary nodes in the removed tissue were found involved .

No other treatment has yet started . The best treatment will be available .

The tests being done ER, PR and PET scan is supposed to guide further treatment . Results are awaited .

Hence now studying what are best possible treatment options . I understand chemo is very toxic . May be low dose chemo and harmone .. better option .will be discussing with oncologist

was researching also on if oncologica tests help in choosing better treatment options

There is also mention of Cytotron which got recent FDA approval .

    Morning

If your mums ER/PR receptor results come back positive she will be offered hormone therapy to reduce her oestrogen levels - this is usally a daily tablet for 5 possibly 10 years.

More important is the HER2 results as if she is found to be HER2+ Positive this leads to a lengthy (and expensive if private) treatment regime involving chemotherapy and targeted biological therapies Herceptin and Perjeta - The Chemo & Herceptin worked effectively for J who was diagnosed with HER2+ in May 2012 (Perjeta wasn't around back then)

I would wait until all the results are in before jumping the gun ER/PR+ positive but HER2- negative is a more do'able outcome but with some nodes involved they may suggest chemo followed by radiotherapy ?  Triple negative and triple positive types nearly always require some form of chemotherapy regime :-/

You mention FDA; have you a US connection ?

Fingers crossed for good results, G n' J

    Thank you so much .

FDA I mention with respect to a new device called cytotron  - which has received FDA approval . So was querying any one used it and how useful it .You can google it .

I am in UK my Mom is India . But has access to all the best hospitals . But still need to make right choices about treatment and plans . And sharing experience in this forum is really help full for us .

  • Does she have LVI? That's where the cancer is in the blood vessels of the breast too. That would be a factor in treatment suggested, and radiotherapy would be advised in the UK as it could spread that way without nodes being involved.  It's more common in HER2+ than ER+, though the majority of women in each group don't have it.

Best wishes to you and your mum.  X

Results of tests have come triple negative . My mom is healthy and fit otherwise and walks about does all household chores etc .

But as age is 79 chemo is not an option . So now considering getting some tests done www.oncologica.com

Also trying to get opinion from UK oncologist from Royal Marsden who may offer private appointments
