I had a lumpectomy on Thursday, had a small tumour removed and a couple of lymph nodes removed along with some tissue surrounding the tumour, results in about 3 weeks time. I’m feeling very sore and tired right now. It would be lovely to hear from other ladies going through or have been through the same.

  • Hi , welcome to the group,  it's been a huge support for me since my diagnosis in November.  There is a "surgery chat" thread that I have bumped to the top for you that should hopefully be of use. If you just want to chat or vent there is usually someone on the "awake" thread. Hope you feel a little less sore soon, do keep posting there will be lots of support on the way xxxx

    Hi

Just type your message and for instance if you wish to post a link to the January Chemo Chat just type the words you need as a link - Then have the webpage for the chemo club which is

community.macmillan.org.uk/.../january-chemo-club-2020 copied so you can paste it into the URL text bar in the image shown below.

Highlight using the cursor the text you wish to be the link - Click the insert tool to open the menu and select Link -  I have highlighted January Chemo Chat and you will see this is the text that automatically appears in the text to display box. All you do then is paste in the website page text into where it says URL.

I have put the chemo club url text above so you can copy that to try it out.

Hope this helps and you get success, G n' J

    Hi Kay56,

I'm sure you're feeling sore but you'll improve every day. I had a mastectomy in June and a lymph node removal in July and was surprised how quickly I got better. I can hardly see my scar now, it's great. The bug bear for me was the drain but it was out in a week each time. Take the painkillers and Doc's advice and you'll be fine. I found it helpful just to go with the flow and not try to do too much too soon. Listen to your body and it will tell you how much you can do.

    Hugs to you Babs Hearts

Morning, I didn’t come home with drains. I’m feeling very tired and achy, not sleeping great either but I’m not a good sleeper normally..just managed a wash and feel exhausted, I guess I’ll have to be patient and give this time, I’m staying with my dad for a few days so am being well looked after. Thankyou for checking up on me, I really do appreciate it. I hope things are all good with you at the moment.

    Hi

Drats! was hoping to hear you had turned a corner, but it is still fairly early days.

You have been through a lot of emotional angst leading up to surgery. Recovery can be slow at first, you are probably still stressing a bit on the tissue results too and that all takes it's toll.

Keep up with the pain relief anything that eases the pain is a bonus.

You could have a look through the Surgery Chat discussion and post a reply there - It's a helpful thread to check out.

We're good thanks, been living the 'new normal' since 2012

    Hugs, G n' J

  • Hi

I’m sorry to hear that you are still a bit sore and tired, but my surgeon said that this is totally normal after surgery and that we just have to take things slowly and take time to heal.  I had a mastectomy and axillary node clearance just over two weeks ago, and although everything is healing up well, I have times when I suddenly feel very tired and also times when the wound/scar area is sore.  At other times I feel great, and even think that I could be back at work, but I know that it is not realistic yet.  Like you, I have had some trouble sleeping since the surgery, particularly when I had a drain in for the first four days, as I could not find a position in bed which was comfortable and where the tubing was not pulling on the wound.  At night I am using a V-pillow beneath my back/head plus a heart-shaped pillow to support my arm (I was given the pillow by the hospital), and these are really helping.  I am also making sure that I get outside in the fresh air for a walk every day, which I think is also helping me both in terms of arm/shoulder mobility and also in relation to sleeping.  I had 5 months of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy before my surgery and am still experiencing a few lingering side effects from that too, so I just take each day as it comes and listen to what my body is telling me - sometimes it is happy for me to do things as normal, and other times I know I need to rest.

It is still very early days for you, so it’s best just to take things slowly and let your body recover.   Take care, and I hope that you feel better very soon.
