Hi. I’m new here. Feels like a strange thing to say on a Sunday night. I’m sure it’s been explained on here a million times, but I start EC chemo on Wednesday and although I understand everyone is different, I was wondering about side affects the first week. I guess in my head I’m trying to work out how to prepare for how I will feel especially as I’m a single mom.
Hi
my story on profile just click on my name to read . I finished 6 cycles of EC three weeks ago . First of all checkout the tips link on first page of January 2020 chemo thread there are lots of useful hints for chemo .
Things like using soft toothbrush so you don't damage gums ,also mouthwash to protect against mouth ulcers .
Its hard to say what SE you may get as everyone differs I had what I considered minimal/ manageable SEs .
The common one is fatigue I doubt you would get away without this . Keep a diary and you will see a pattern emerge then you will be able to plan .
You will be given anti sickness tablets because you will suffer with nausea from day 1 usually (day of chemo ) take them even if you dont feel sick ..prevention is easier than cure.
Drink lots of fluid chemo dehydrates inside and out ..you need to flush it out of system fluids also help with constipation. Also lots of hand / body cream for dry skin .
As you know we all different so the SE I have mentioned are the common ones but what I must say is you will not get all the SE that you have been told about they are possible SE . Be extremely unlucky or greedy to get them all .
Take it one step at a time don't suffer unnecessary discomfort e.g. Shouldn't vomit , watch your temp and any worries ring your unit that is what they are there for to help you beat this .
I am off to try for some sleep now but if you want to ask any questions tomorrow feel free .
Do have a browse around the threads and join in the chemo thread where there will be people currently on EC .
If you haven't already fill in your profile it helps when people reply

hi,
i had 3 cycles of EC starting 1/8. I kept a diary of side effects and found there was a pattern - I was tired when I got home after treatment, then the next 8-9 days I experienced the worst of my side effects (feeling sickly etc...) but then from day 10 things were looking up more normal. I have friends that have had different side effects but the 10 day pattern was consistent between us. So what I would say is no matter how easy or difficult your SE are this isn’t all the time - work out your pattern then you know your expectations. Good luck xxx
