Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice with regards to signs/symptoms of breast cancer as I have some concerns?
I have been getting some pain in my left breast and underarm, feeling very tired and nauseas.
Its the pain that's been getting to me the most though. Sometimes it's a dull pain, but occasionally it's a short, sharp pain.
I tried to see a nurse practitioner about it today, but she just pressed round my back and said it'll just be a pulled muscle. I don't feel this is what it is though as the pain doesn't go away with pain killers. It also feels tender and is noticeably bigger than the right one. I am going to make another appointment with my gp tomorrow as I felt like I wasn't taken seriously today with the nurse practitioner.
When I've tried to self examine I haven't felt any noticeable or obvious lumps. Is there always supposed to be a lump there?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi
Warm welcome to the club no one wants to join :-/
Sorry to read about your symptoms worries. You are right to follow your instincts and get this checked out. Anything that feels different or not right usually means something is wrong, after all you know your own body best. You need answers if only to rule cancer out and ease your mind.
Chances are this is something benign as around 80% of referrals to a breast clinic are found to caused by something benign but even benign conditions can either grow or become worse over time and need treating in some way.
You are correct there isn't always a lump that can be felt, could be quite small and hidden deeper in denser breast tissue, some forms of breast cancer doesn't form a lump as such, just a scattering of cells. Best way to self examine is with soapy hands.
Do mention to the GP you also have underarm pain as well just to try and convince them you need a breast clinic referral, otherwise you may get fobbed off The only sure fire way of getting answers is with either a mammogram and/or an ultrasound scan. If anything suspicious is then spotted small biopsies could be taken using a hollow needle.
Hope this is of some help at a worrying time, fingers tightly crossed this turns out to be nothing of concern.
Hugs, G n' J
Hi Michelle6988 welcome to the forum.
I personally think you are doing the right thing by going to see the GP and they will examine you again and check for any abnormalities.
Sadly as I am sure you will know the symptoms of Breast Cancer can be so subtle that many of us don't even know its lurking. Mine for example was picked up on a routine Mammogram and there was no lump.
Pain as you describe is not a common symptom that I have heard much about but hopefully the GP will be able to put your mind at rest tomorrow.
Do come back and let us know how you get on.x
