Hi All,
Just been for my pre op appointment this afternoon. I managed to get the letter sent to my consultant while there and it mentioned my DCIS was High grade and spread over 110mm. That sounds a lot to me, they said in my diagnosis it was spread from the front to back. I have to wait till 8th Jan for a Sentinel lobe removal of approx 3 lobes then wait again for my mastectomy and diep restructure.
I'm a bit worried about the length of time I have to wait for all this, the nurse initially told me that as it was widespread and high grade they would do the mastectomy within 2 to 3 weeks ago and that was 3 weeks ago. Not worried till now but hating the wait!!
Has anyone had any break through over the waiting period for mastectomy?

Hi
I think unfortunately that until you have your op no-one will know exactly your full diagnosis - I had a lump which when operated on and they then found extensive rupturing DCIS which hadn’t shown up on my mammogram or ultrasound , so it is pretty impossible for anyone to say when the changes take place (I had only a week between my biopsy results and my op due to a cancellation so it it is highly unlikely that anything changed during that time) Most of us will probably have had the cancer growing over many months if not years , so another couple of weeks should not make any difference.
The waiting is the worst possible time, my diagnosis was 3 years ago now and I had a delayed DIEP 2 weeks ago , hopefully I can now start to put it all behind me (apart from the medication for being ER+)
Good luck with all your results and the DIEP

Hi Sam. I believe the NICE guidelines state that you should have your op within 8 weeks of diagnosis. I was 8 weeks and one day. I then received a letter from the nhs apologising for not meeting the target. I also had 110mm of high grade DCIS and had a mastectomy. There was no break out cancer and as I decided against reconstruction, I didn't need any further treatment. I hope all goes well for you xx
As I posted I realised this is a thread from a while ago. Shaz52, was there anything specific you wanted to ask about?
Hi thank you for you reply, was just wondering if radiotherapy, mine is moderate grade, is in the guidelines for treatment for dcis. Best wishes xx
