hi my hubby ( bless him) has been out to get some vitamin D tablets we were advised to get the ones that say 800 but he said he can’t find any so got some that says
vitamin D3 typical mount 12.5up %RI 250
these say they are 1a day tablets are they the right ones? Do I just take one or should I take more?
Xx
Doctors seem to have different regimes. I am prescribed 1,000 Colecalciferol tablets, which are about 25 micrograms. They help your immune system and I was asked this week if I was taking them as they help reduce the side effects of the biophoshate injections apparently. X
My Consultant recommended me taking Vitamin D, saying it is 'very good' for us, and with the darker winter days we may actually need it more.
I was taking 1,000iu - however, I have recently gone up to 5,000iu - I take them 'most' days, although some days I do forget. I didn't realise, you can even get them in 20,000iu which I think you take once a week or once every two weeks. Personally, I think taking daily might be better, although I am open to suggestions for taking the larger dose less often.
When I first started taking these, I read that it is recommended that we have 4,000iu per day.
I hope this helps xx
Hi
The Consultant advised me to take VitD3 too and I take them via Prescription like London Mum of two. It might be worth asking your Consultant/Oncologist/GP if you can have then on prescription.
I got a cheap supply from Costco of D3 which I took to my GP, as the Adcal D3 gave me indigestion, he advised one every other day, they are iu 2,000. Hard to remember every other day so I take one 3 times a week on Monday Wednesday and Friday.
maybe I should be taking more?

Wow, you're all on big doses...I'm prescribed Adcal-D3 Caplets 750mg/200i.u...one caplet twice a day (equivalent to 600mg calcium and 10mcg colecalciferol daily). Getting my bloods checked next week prior to starting bisphosphonate infusions. According to the leaflet this is half the recommended dose but that's what my oncologist prescribed and the gp pharmacist confirmed it.
Thanks everyone I’ll keep taking these and ask on my next chemo (3rd January) at least I’m taking something
I’m really so pleased your all here to help thanks xxx
Just to add, I’ve been on Bisphosphanates (Alendronate) for some years before bc due to diagnoses osteopenia then mild osteoporosis, so taking AdcalD3 but couldn’t ever take the evening dose as I felt so awful, have plenty of calcium in my diet, therefore simply D3 was fine. I decided to check it out with GP as I simply didn’t know what the best way forward was!
