Hi

I had a skin sparing mastectomy on Monday 9th December. I had my drain removed today (13th December)

my boss has said that I can return to work and just answer the phone and computer work (not my normal job)

I want to go back next week but my family are telling me no.

I would love to hear anyone else's opinion

xx

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate everyone taking the time to give me opinions and guidance. I guess I am trying to race ahead quickly. I probably do need to slow down a bit and take stock. I will try to rest more.

once again thank you to all

You have had major surgery! How will you get to work and back? Insurance companies usually say six weeks from surgery before you are covered. How long once you are in the building before you start doing your normal job? If you go back people will assume you are " better now". When actually you still have quite a way to go and its not just physically but mentally.

If you do too much too soon you may encounter problems further down the line with lymphedema.

Speaking of insurance, what does your sick note say? To go back you have to be signed off by your GP. If you go back before your sick note runs out you are not insured.

Once you go back yo work friends and family will also assume you are fine and they will expect you to do everything you normally do.

So I'd think very carefully before committing yourself.

    Please give yourself time.

I will think more carefully. I will probably wait longer. I will discuss it with my consultant and breast care nurse before I make any final decision. In the meantime I will rest up as much as possible.

    Thank you for your response
