Hi

I have just had my introduction to chemotherapy site. Nurse was very nice but focused on all the things that might go wrong.I think it is a foregone conclusion I will get sepsis, that my life will stSleepy for the duration of the treatment , I will probably get a blood clot, heart damage and that the cool cap won't work. I am taking part in the ROSCO trial;which she hadn't heard of. I had to tell her Sleepyich drugs I was getting and for how long (4 cycles of TC with herceptin and perjeta then surgery) and also had to ask for a prescription for steroids. I am hoping someone on here can please put thinSleepy back in perspective for me.Chemo due to start on Thursday (but not if I have a mouth ulcer!)TIA. Feeling really downnowSleepy

I think they have to warn you about all the possible outcomes . I said “ is there any hope ?” And she said yes, of course !!

i managed the chemo perfectly well , living alone , drove , did shopping , ran a history group etc etc . There were a few days each cycle when I felt a bit ill , but not too bad . The first chemo I had a picc line put in , then x ray to check position , then chemo . A nurse sat with me in a side room all through it , to check how I would react . I was told to take the steroids as early in the day as possible as they disturb your sleep . If you feel nauseous make sure they know , there are some good treatments around , emend is good but expensive !! It is very rare for you to get all the side effects, I didn’t mind about being bald , but I missed my eyelashes ! Keep drinking , wash your hands a lot and think about possible sites of infection , keyboards , door handles , mobiles ,light switches , keys etc , that we don’t usually clean much !! I didn’t get any infections .......

we all felt anxious at the beginning , but you will get in the swing of it , surprising how quickly it goes ! Hope you don’t get any nasty side effects , but if you do , tell your team straight away , they are there to help make it as easy as possible for you ....best wishes !

Hiya well I paid a visit to the chemo until today and they were absolutely wonderful showed me around introduce me to a few of the nurses explained what will happen on Friday when I get there it was lovely and relaxed

she did say when I see the chemo doctor tomorrow she would go through all the ups and downs about chemo so she wasn’t going to through them with me today

so all in all it put my mind at rest

what is worrying me now though is  when I went to have my blood taken for testing this evening the nurse tried three times to find a vain in my right arm and twice in the back of my right hand she called another nurse who couldn’t get a vain either they both said my vain kept collapsing  ( had left mx and lymph nodes taken so been told can’t use that arm ) in the end they both said they had to get it from my left arm even though their not supposed too

so I’m now worried they won’t find a good vain on my right arm/hand on Friday for chemo Cry Xx

I am glad you had a reassuring visit. I have just taken my steroids today in preparation for chemo on Thursday. Makes it all real and somehow better as now you are on the way to being cured. Since I had my visit I have had random conversations with people, including the pharmacist who all said how supportive our local chemo ward is . Amazing how many people affected by this disease. I hope us newbies have a smooth journey in the coming weeks

I've just got home from my first chemo. Long day but not nearly as bad as I imagined. So many other people going through the same thing and the nurses were all lovely. I had no reactions to any of the 4 drugs and even managed the cold cap. I had to put my hand in some warm water to get a vein .Little needle in and no problem all day.

    Good luck for tomorrowx
