Hi all I saw my oncologist yesterday who was discussing drug options for reducing oestrogen levels. I'm period menopausal (which I think kick started all this cancer stuff anyway) so I think they will put me on Tomoxifen which just suppresses the oestrogen . So when you come off it you can even start your periods again? I wondered if its worth pushing for something like Letrozole to turn my ovaries off just to get the menopause over and done with? I don't want to go through menopause twice!!!! The list of side effects for both look grim.... but I guess menopause is no fun!!
Hello Bagrat17 - I am interested in any SEs of Tamoxifen - did you choose this med? I am early 60s postmenopausal and are taking Anastrozole, and are thinking about a change to Tamoxifen - because of increased effects of hip arthritis since taking Anastrozole, and wondered if Tamoxifen would be a better choice.
I was offered either tamoxifen or anastrozole as my chance of recurrence is only 5% in next 5 years though of course there is now research regarding later recurrence in ER+ breast cancers. Radiotherapy has already reduced that risk apparently so that's why I had a choice.
I have only been on it since Nov 1st but have had no side effects apart from a teeny bit of vaginal discharge which would pass for normal when I was pre menopause.
The rest I think I mentioned in my post on Dec 7th. I've had no flushes, sleep issues etc. Hope that helps
This has been very helpful - have had Chemo and radio. Had a recurrence score of 19% but onco dx test shows this would be reduced greatly by chemo and Tamoxifen (or as was told by Onco. Anastrozole will be the same). Onco says this is personal choice Anastrozole or Tamoxifen.
Hi Flowerlady, I meant to wish you a peaceful Christmas not a peace free one!! Is this another side effect! I wish all of you trying to find the right drug a successful out come, and a peaceful Christmas!
Love Pat xx
I'm a bit creaky too and extra pain did not appeal! Also liked the idea that tamoxifen was bone strengthening after menopause. Hope you work out what you would like to do. No point in my opinion living an extra 20 years at my age if it is full of discomfort and feels like 40!!
Hi KikiB whilst having the holiday from meds has the joint pain reduce, I do hope so. If so how long after stopping did the improvements take place, Thanks.
