Back to the Waiting!

I had an appointment with my Consultant yesterday and I had been advised that a treatment plan would be discussed following a biopsy on the 23rd of October.

I have been told that my BC is oestrogen receptor positive and have been prescribed Letrozole 2.5mg.

Consultant said that a treatment plan would not be drawn up now until I had an MRI and CT scans, which I had this morning, and an appointment with an anesthetist as I have had a CVA in the past and suffer from Angina. An appointment could take up to 4 weeks! Chemo would then be discussed as well as surgery.

Has anyone had any similar problems or advice.  I feel that I am being put on a back burner and that the longer I have to wait the worse the outcome.  I understand that Letrozole is to minimise the oestrogen in the body which hopefully will slow down growth of "Larry the Lump".

Oh I forgot to mention, it's gone into lymph nodes in armpit as well!

I know others had appointments for treatment plans as well yesterday and I hope and pray that your reports were positive.

  • Don't worry too much about this slight delay before chemo starts. I expect if most of us add up all the days between this result and that consultation , it would come to several weeks. Cancer in most situations  doesn't grow quite as rapidly as our heads imagine it might. Your consultant is simply waiting for all information before the plan is determined. Probably easier in the long term than changing plans after a few weeks just as you've got your head around it. The anaesthetist 's report is going to be essential in your situation. I think most people see a cardiologue before starting treatment. My treatment had to be changed after surgery because the analysis of the tumour was different than originally thought. It took a while to get over the shock of the changes. Your way .... there will be a full picture before decisions are made.

My treatment was four years ago. Despite some unpleasant treatment and difficult days......at the last check in July, my cancer was still clear.

I hope once the decisions are made, everything goes well.

    Love Karen

    Hi Karen

Thank you so much for your quick response.

It's so comforting hearing from you all, the support is much appreciated and especially from someone like you who is a beacon of light to someone like me at the start of the journey.

Oh heck it is hard isn't it. So much better to get the plan right especially as you have other issues going on.

As has already been said our imaginations run riot about cancer cells etc.

I try to see them as just normal cells ( part of me) that have just got a bit over enthusiastic.

Yep that's  letrozole's job!! Love Larry the lump! 2 years ago I had DCIS and wound took a while witb dressings to heal and I called it Boris . Boris 2 from Sep seems to have behaved better so far!

My husband has various heart issues. His last ecg looked like a train wreck and anaesthetist hapoy to give him GA.

I just have mild arrhythmia but on blood thinners are you?

    Sending calming thoughts.

    Yes , I'm on Warfarin.

I had 1 episode of AF in 2003 and have had some Angina attacks, not many recently, so I am hopeful that the anaesthetist will give it a shot to try to get rid of this unwanted guest who is making life very difficult, not only for me but I can see my family suffering as well.

I like the idea of thinking about thinking it as over "enthusiastic cells" because up until now "Larry" has been thought of as "the enemy within", an over enthusiastic cell is much less frightening.

Wishing you everything you wish yourself.

I've had 3 episodes of AF last in 2013. On flecainide and Apixaban. My chest pains fit better with anxiety ( so far)

Just started tamoxifen. Feeling a bit light headed but hope it settles. Rads next hurdle.

Hope time till you get your plan flies by. Xx
