hi
5 days after my drains were removed I’ve got a swelling fluid under my arm and towards my back. Uncomfortable and unpleasant. Struggling to sleep. Went to hospital to check and it’s seroma but they don’t want to drain asked hubby to massage but it kills to touch.
My surgery was 24 Oct and I’m trying to come off pain killers is it too soon? I’m in bits but wondering when will the pain go? When should I come off 4 hourly tablets!
Morning Lady
I've had surgery on my feet, twice, and BC surgery ,twice. While I follow the nurses General instructions, that is try not to let the pain peak,as this makes it hard to control. I have found reducing sort of becomes self sorting. You take the morning ones, always for me the last to drop, then it gets longer and longer before you think ,I hurt. I'm sort of reluctant to drop morning and night ones. The first allow me to get moving, the latter ensure I sleep.
As for Sedona, Bra should be as tight as you can cope with and take pain relief a bit before massage. See if you can find a YouTube clip about draining lymph fluid. You need to clear a path before starting on the Sedona. It's gentle massage remind hubby it's not a muscle.
Rest,horizontal preferably.
They do seem more reluctant to manually drain these days. If they do,again bra as tight as possible.
Gentle hug
Hi lady_tinkerbell,
I can’t help much with the pain killers I was lucky, I only took the pain killers for the two days I was in Hospital and another day or too afterwards, I developed sickness due to antibiotics but wasn’t keeping them down anyway, I only took a paracetamol before bed once I dropped the antibiotic that was making me sick. I didn’t really had any pain.
I had node clearance 3 weeks later and developed underarm swelling I had mine drained twice, but after that tried minor exercises went to physio, Lymphoedema is no fun, but there are things you can do.
I was told they wouldn’t do anything for me till chemo and rads were finished. Lymph message really does help. Your Breast nurse should be able to help you x x
Thank you for this. Tbh the pain is more from this seroma it’s gross. Like a tennis ball under my arm so hurting me to move it. But I know best thing is to move it so I need to get through that.
Im so pathetic and Squeemish that it’s the thought of stuff that bothers me more than the pain sometimes.
Im trying to do too much and setting myself back I’m my own worse enemy
Think il rest up today then try to get out a little tomorrow
I have not even looked at my wound yet, I close my eyes
xx
Thanks for this
it does make sense. I think il try paracetamol morning and night and just 1 lot morphine mid day today and see if I can cope.
Good idea re clip from you tube for hubby I’m getting him to massage today.
As I say a lot is in my head and the thought of compression and massage makes me want to pass out lol
xx
I looked at YouTube for Simple Lymphoedema Drainage (SLD) however it really didn’t help that much.
I’ve since been to see a Lymphoedema Nurse, she has given me some exercises to do and shown me the best SLD. I also have a sleeve which is helping a lot.
SLD really needs to be tailored to you x x
