Stopping Tamoxifen

I am 68 years old, diagnosed with very early stage breast cancer a year ago. 2 surgeries, no chemo and no RT. Am on Tamoxifen and have every possible side effect. I feel as though the joy has been sucked out of my life. Have my 1yr follow up this month and I know my BC nurse will recommend changing to a different medicine. But no matter what the medication is, all I read about are people who feel like me. Don't get me wrong, I am incredibly grateful that I had such a tiny tumour, 7mm, but I can't help wondering if at my age it is worth it to be on these meds. What are the real odds of recurrence, and how does that change if I decide to stop treatment? Thanks for and advice x

  • Can I ask why you were given that instead of an AI like Letrozole,  as tamoxifen is usually given to pre menopausal women?

I don't know if you know about Predict, but its what oncologists use. The link is here: https://breast.predict.nhs.uk/tool

Abbs of you put your details in it will give a statistical average of benefit based on women in your position.

Thank you for this, I will be taking it to my appointment in a couple of weeks and talking to them about it. I don't know why I was given Tamoxifen over others, it was the only drug mentioned but I shall raise that question also!
