Hello lovely people, and Welcome to the November Chemotherapy Chat! I cant believe how these months are rolling round, I hope November is as easy a month as possible for you all.

This thread is for all of you good folks going through chemotherapy to take a look at, ask questions, answer questions and be there for one another in a way only you guys know how.

If you want to find this post quickly, you can hit the 'Save In My Favourites' button.

For all of those of you going through chemotherapy, you are superstars. You are amazing, and you are fighting each and every day, you are my heroes.

If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and something that you may find you would like to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital you are being treated at; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted (big discount!) So it's worth asking about.

If you need to refer back a month here is a link to Octobers Thread which will be being locked to replies soon.

Remember, you're never alone, you have us! And, just try to focus on what your chemotherapy is doing. Its hopefully kicking your cancers butt.

And I hope all of you are doing as well as you can do while going through this tough part of your journeys.  Don't forget all cancer patients are entitled to a 5 Year Prescription Fee Exemption Card from your GP for meds to help with any side effects

Happy November Everyone, fingers crossed for maximum impact and minimal side effects.

  • I don't feel brave, just a total wreck, dreading actually seeing hubby so ill today, if I get the chance in between having the anti sickness tablet one hour before chemo.  Can't stop crying, I feel so down.

    Regards, Giuliella.
  • Does the hospital have a psychologist or someone to talk to? If that's going to be a while happening do you have a local Haven Breast Cancer near you as they offer counselling too for free? I know that you need practical help,  but it might help to have some counselling through this nightmare of a situation at the moment. If there's a Macmillian nurse they should help with this... or a Maggie's Centre. They might also be able to expedite  practical help.  Which hospital or area are you in?  Take care,  and be kind to yourself.  Xxxx

just getting out of bed and keeping going under your very difficult circumstances makes you brave in my eyes.

I can second going to speak to a Breast Cancer Haven if you have one or a Maggies centre, they offer all kinds of support and you certainly need all the help (emotionally as well as physically) as you can get.

    Thinking of you

    XOXO

    Hi

Were on the same treatment path. I'm day 6 of 3rd EC.  Re washing hair, I found it only dries it and decided to stop washing altogether, been this  way for 3 weeks now and think will continue until it looks like it needs a wash. EC dries hair, skin and eyes for me, so I  foucus on adding moisture to face and eyes and avoiding removing via shampoo on hair.

    Good luck

  • Hi ,

I am so sorry that things are not good for your husband. There is so little I can say except that I am holding you both in my prayers and I am sending you a big hug.

I hope you can find the help and support you both need. You have been amazing under such difficult circumstances and you will find strength you never knew you had.

    Much love xx

  • Thanks for the sock recommendation, have those & some rather fetching (not!) gloves en route which will hopefully arrive for tomorrow's chemo marathon.

Am also trying a mixture of jojoba & avocado (both of which are good for nails) to circumvent any nail issues, will see how they fare vs the recommended evonail.

Thanks again and here's to cold extremities and no periph neur...

I am new to this thread and am starting my first round of chemotherapy today (herceptin) and (docetaxol and carboplatin) tomorrow. Not quite sure what to expect but glad to hear everyone’s advice and pointers on how to manage the side effects. Best wishes and good luck to you all with your November treatments.

    Hi

Sounds like a busy couple of days for you - They usually start off by giving these on separate days so they can tell which one (if any) causes any sudden side effects - your other sessions chemo drugs are usually all on the same day.

Noticed you mentioned a while back about your granddaughters birthday on Thursday and party on Saturday - Which is just around the day when the docetaxel aches and tiredness may set in :-/

If you feel out of sorts you could 'facetime' her ?  There are bound to be several other children (read germ factories) there so even if you do feel well enough to visit be wary of any bug carriers...

    Hugs, G n' J

Thanks for that, when you are used to being around small children you don’t think about them being “dangerous”, I certainly didn’t until it was pointed out to me. I will have to see how I am feeling, perhaps a visit to her at home before she leaves for the party will be ok.
