Hi

I had my first EC chemotherapy treatment on 8th October it was ok and I felt tired but otherwise ok the next 2 days. On the 3rd day I felt shaky and generally unwell and the 4th day felt worse so called the oncology helpline and was taken into hospital. I was given antibiotics etc., and they found I had a slight urine infection.

I'm just feeling so low because I couldn't even get through the first treatment without problems and can't imagine another 5 treatments.

Just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience xx

  • Hi Diane,

Are you having 3 EC and 3 paclitaxel/ docetaxel?

You actually sound like that you're doing well if so far that's thr only issue! Take a look at the October  chemotherapy thread and you'll see that we all have issues when on it.  Is not easy,  sometimes horrible and sometimes (believe it or not) even funny,  like when our tastebuds change and the chemo carbs cravings kick in. Please join us on the chemo thread and feel free to have a good moan or tell a good story or just join in a chat:) xx

Hi sparklers85. Out of all the treatment I've had  chemo was the one I dreaded but so far it hasn't been too bad. I was given the anti sickness medication which works really well. I had an infection after my first treatment but that was dealt with very quickly by the hospital. In the first few days after chemo my appetite is virtually nil but goes back to normal around day 6. I also had very sore gums and heartburn which the hospital supplied mouthwash and medication. In the first week I am extremely tired but by day 6 am feeling more or less back to normal.

I hope you don't suffer from many of the side effects but make sure you tell your oncologist if you do as they will want to help you.

    Good luck xx

    Diane

  • Hi Diane,

I was so scared at my first chemo, I was shaking uncontrollably throughout the first drug being push through by the nurse. I thought I’d pass out.

There are lots of side effects from Chemo, but just try to remember why you are having this treatment.
Im not saying it’s going to be easy, but you will get through it and never suffer, always let your care team know and you will get meds for your side effects.

I finished chemo end of April and most things have returned to ‘normal’.
Hang on in there and remember why you are doing this, take each treatment at a time.

Let us know how you are getting on.
