hi it’s been 7 days today since I had my laparoscopy

surgery, I have been lying on my back which

is giving me backache, I like lying on my side

can anybody recommend anything else.

many thanks

  • Hi

its so difficult when you have to lie on your back I like to lie on rgt side but after masectomy 4/7 I can only just get there with pillow under me .Then scar area stiffens when I try to turn back

The  only thing I can think of is pillow under knees which brings your legs up ( may need two ) this in turn places back against mattress .

There are also back excercise but  would think they would hurt laparoscopy site . What about a A shape pillow to support back ?

Hope you get some relief soon

    take care

  • I agree....I was a left side sleeper, but had a left mastectomy in April, healed for 6 weeks then had a left side level III clearance where I had to keep my arm raised for the first few weeks. I then started chemo and all my surgery swelled up, and I had a PICC line in the other side! I've been on my back non-stop from April, and agree about the pillows helping. After a while I became used (resigned?) to it., but hope that by Christmas I'll be able to sleep on my right side and face my lovely husband all night!

    Hi

Just before I got this I had surgery on both feet. I had to lie on my back. I was most comfortable with quite a deep firm pillow under my legs. I put it nearer my bottom rather than between knee and ankle because there it puts pressure on my slightly arthritic knees.

Or try two thin ones tucked into the same pillowcase, otherwise the drift off in the night. I also had a knee cushion. That was like a cylinder cut in half like a  D shape that just went under my knees.I got that from lidl.

I use an app on my phone that goes through a relaxation programme. That helped too. Now I rarely get through the introduction before I'm asleep.you do get use to it eventually.

  • I suspect the best thing you can do is to try out a combination of pillows and cushions till you find something that feels really comfy during the daytime and then give the same combination a go at night with extra pillow slips so you’ve got cool cotton next to your skin!

I still struggle sometimes and have an extra pillow in case it’s needed.

    Hello

After i had my mastectomy with reconstruction i had to sleep on my back. I bought myself a v pillow which i propped up slightly with ordinary pillows, i slept really well. I also had a heart shaped pillow that i was given from a local breast cancer charity which i placed under my arm which stopped me from putting pressure on my side.

Would definetly recommend a V pillow.

Hope you find something that helps xx
