Hi guys, I have been through all the checks at the breast clinic, as I found a lump in my armpit area, and on the ultrasound they found a rather large lump in my breast, had biopsy taken from breast and lymph nodes under arm. So they are sending me for a CT scan, which is Tuesday, and I have results for biopsies on Friday 13. Thing is all day today I am in pain, and as the day carries on it’s getting worse, so bad right now it woke me, I have taken more paracetamol and put a warm flannel on the area, but I’m so tired and scared. Any suggestions what I should do? I know it’s real early, sorry guys..
Morning Sarah
It sounds like you've done what you can really. You can take ibuprofen alongside paracetamol. Either at the same time or take paracetamol then a couple of hours later ibuprofen. I prefer that way as pain is less likely to peak.
Is the area red or do you have a temperature? That could indicate an infection after the biopsy.
Breasts are quite delicate and I found ultra sound quite bruising and these new staple gun thing for biopsies are quite brutal. The sound made me jump through the roof, I was expecting a needle.
In the morning you could try solphadine max. That's paracetamol with codine Approach with caution as it can knock you out a bit, but you have to buy it from the pharmacy.
However checking you don't have an infection is important.
As for being scared that's the normal state to be in. This part of waiting is without doubt the worst part. The unknown is very scary. Once you know what you are dealing with things sort of get better. As the they say on Strictly " the journey begins".
I'm glad I needed a wee. I've had my surgery and just waiting for radiotherapy to start. I'm taking letrozole to suppress oestrogen which can and does cause joint pain so just waiting for pain relief to kick in. Now you know even in the middle of the night someone's listening.
Morning, I had pain following a biopsy, I actually spoke to the breast care nurse for advice, her theory was that perhaps a nerve had been damaged during the biopsy hence the shooting pains down to my elbow. Also due to this discomfort i was then not using my arm as usual which in turn caused my shoulder to freeze.
Carry on with your painkillers as you are, make sure your temperature doesn't rocket or bomb. Maybe make contact with your breast care nurse.
