Hi I’ve been diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer two weeks ago.   I’ve had an MRI scan last week to see if it has spread to the other breast and got an appointment with the surgeon this Wednesday the 28th.    I am just struggling to come to terms with it and trying to be brave and positive but my insides are like a washing machine.

  • Hello Jugsy,

Sorry you're here on this site but welcome. Almost everyone in this group has felt like you are now so don't feel guilty that you feel this way. The waiting at the beginning for results and treatment plans are some of the hardest times. As you say.....you are trying to be  positive but the fear of the unknown filters through. Once you know what is planned for you, you can take it step by step.....each step one on the road to recovery.

Breast cancer is extremely treatable these days. You will find a number of posts here from people who had their cancer years ago. My own cancer was diagnosed in 2015. I won't pretend at times the treatments weren't difficult but the end result is that my cancer has been clear for nearly four years.

So for now.......use this group as often as you need.... ask questions, rant, cry......You will come to terms with what is happening in your own way. You don't need to brave here . However, I am sure you will feel better in yourself after the 28th when you have an idea of what is going to happen next. Take a deep breath today....try to do something nice in this beautiful weather which will distract your thoughts. Nothing more can be planned until Wednesday.

    I wish you well.

    Take care. Love Karen

    Hello Jugsy1458

Advice I have been given is to only look at the next appt or what is on front of you. I am 4 weeks into diagnosis. Many emotions run through us. I try to assimilate each appts info and then prep for the next one. Believe me, I am a world leader in catastrophising or what ifing.

Stick to this website, Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research.

Make use of this forum and try to keep who you run ideas past to a minimum, having a level of control is helpful at a time when you get phone calls for an apt the next day or attend an appt that something happens you were not expecting.

Don't underestimate the need to go through the emotions, be with them don't try and fight them. There is a saying that spins the make lemonade one, When life gives you lemons be with the lemons. No need to be strong, tough, heroic, brave. Its ok to say today, is not a good day, take time out. Not to wallow but to just allow yourself to work though your feelings.

Recommend meditation apps such as Calm or Headspace (there are freebie ones you can use before committing).

But biggest advice I was given...stay off the deep dark web.

Keep in touch. Take care and look after you before anyone else, your needs come first.

  • Hi

I know you would rather not be here but Welcome to our club . My story if you wish to read is on my profile .

You have come to the right place .

It has already been said but the worst part is the waiting once you know what is happening you can take back some control and slow down the roller coaster slightly .

Everyone feels  as you are at the beginning then the journey to recovery can begin one step at a time .

Enjoy the sunshine doing some fun things until your next appointment . You'll be better able to cope with your next step .

Remember this is the place to come to scream ,rant ,cry or if like me weird humour have a laugh .

Dont google please mostly wrong info. Come here someone will have the answer .

    keep smiling

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

    Hi Jugsy

Welcome to the world of "Wait". Not sure how many here are ex service personnel, but they would have all made great MOD staff. Just like them we do a lot of " Hurry up and wait".We get all prepared for an appointment letter then it arrives and the date is much further away than we want.

I'm going to contradict the others do use the dark web. I've found a great cheese scone recipe and that oven top cookie Nadyia made on telly last week. For Breast Cancer it's $&@p.

Whatever you feel someone will have been there and will be able to support you. But it's not all doom and gloom, we celebrate too.

Last piece of advice, watch out for the spell checker it is totally random. Last week it swapped letrozole to methadone. I'm not sure they are interchangeable!

  • Hi Jugsy, (great user name!) and welcome

though of course it’s sad to see you here. Waiting is the pits but at least breast cancer care is faster than many other conditions! Going for each appointment gets you a dry mouth, wobbly knees and a mental attitude of ‘when will I die?’ But breast cancer care these days is excellent, new drugs are being found and tries even as I type. But there are a number used now which improve outcome immensely.

keep off Dr Google, he ain’t up to date and is filled with ill informed rubbish about BC!

Hope things are straightforward for you, do use the group, feel able to join the ‘AWAKE’ thread if you are awake and worrying in the wee small hours (though be reminded that light from your device will add to the sleeplessness problems!) as there are laughs and silly posts as well as worries aired on there.

and lastly, sending you a great big

    hug xxx
