I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago had a wide local excision followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy then 5 years of Arimidex.  A couple of months ago I found an area of hard tissue in the same breast which seems to be getting bigger about the size of a peanut in a shell I was examined by a breast consultant then had a ultrasound and was told it was probably fat necrosis.  However, was given a follow up appointment 6 weeks time, I am really concerned it could be another tumour as he was not 100 per cent certain.  I wondered if any other members had experienced a similar experience.

  • Hi

I'm sorry that you've had to come back here 5 years after your original diagnosis.

Although mine wasn't breast cancer, I do understand the worry of recurrence and I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. This could be because this is such a busy group that posts quickly fall off the first page. By replying to you it will 'bump' the post back to the top of the page where it'll have a chance of being seen.

I'm also tagging the group's Community Champions . and as they may be able to help or point you in the direction of some more information.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is just a fat necrosis.

  • Dear , I've just seen you post since 'bumped' it.

I too am sorry you find yourself back here.  It is no good me saying 'don't worry - we all do'.  What I would say is due to your past history - that you had operation for BC, I don't think you should be made to wait 5 weeks - for many reasons, mainly because of the worry and stress the waiting will cause.

To be told 'probably' is a nice word to hear, but to hear 'it is not BC' would be far better. In reality a follow up appointment in 6 weeks could be the normal for this, but you have history so need checking, and need reassurance.

Plus what will they do in 6 weeks, another ultra sound or a biopsy or just arrange another follow up appointment.

My thoughts would be to phone up (pretend to be a family member if this helps you to be more forceful).  Phone and speak to the Secretary for the Ward you went to and ask 'what will the follow up appointment entail?' - if it is biopsy based, then tell them you would rather have this 'now' so you know for certain - to be on the safe side.  You can tell them with any concerns there is a 'two week' referral system, so you would like to be seen under this system.

Many other members have had similar experiences and can share them with you - maybe this is normal, I don't know, but can only imagine how worrying this will be for you.  I hope we can help in give you support and reassurance.

Hope I've helped 'a little' xxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
