hi

I’m awaiting a wire localisation partial mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Does getting the dye injected into your nipple hurt ( im a wuss need sedated for dentist lol)

does inserting the wire hurt?

My breast is still bruised sore and swollen from vaccum biopsy 10 days ago.

thanks

Hi Flo3332002 welcome to the forum and sorry that you have had to come find us.

I found the injection into the niple painful however it was seconds of pain and not even minutes so it is doable and take a big deep breath with it. I didnt feel the wire going in at all and you shouldn't either as you will have had  some local anaesthetic to numb up the area.

They possibly may not do the surgery until the swelling has gone down a bit which it will given time.

Its not an easy ti for you at all and the waiting around is often the worst part. However, we are here for you so keep posting and keep chatting and others will be along soon to offer some words of wisdom.

Sending some huge big hugs your way meantime.  xxxxxx

  • Is the dye you're asking about the radioactive one? For my sentinel node removal I had three small injections. I was terrified because I didn't  know what to expect and I hadn't  found this site so had no one to ask.....

But it is like three little pin pricks and then it's  over. As granny says the wire is almost painless because of the local anesthetic.  I had an mammogram to check it was successfully in position after it was placed. That pinched slightly because the glass plates always do, don't  they?

Hope all goes well.....wuss or not....you'll be surprised at yourself and be fine.

    Cyber hugs

    Love Karen

  • Hi

I have had a sentinel node biopsy. I was so scared of having an injection into my nipple area I could hardly utter a word to the poor nurse who was doing it. I was terrified. (I explained afterwards and we both had a bit of a giggle about it!!!)  Despite the procedure sounding horrific it is actually not painful, certainly no more painful than a normal injection. When the radioactive 'stuff' goes in it's slightly cold and tingly for a few seconds if I remember correctly. but definitely not painful The blue dye is put in during the surgery itself, well it was with me. I was a complete wuss at the time but i think it's as much fear of the unknown than anything else. Hope this helps.

    Hi

The wire didn't hurt at all. The blue isotope is just normal injection.

The worst bit was the pinching between mammogram plates cos they couldn't find the lump using ultra sound.

Watch out for the unicorn wee. It cheered me up no end. The unicorn look hangs around for quite a while on the boob. It's still there and its about 7 weeks since surgery.Unicorn wee only lasts about 24 hours. Apparently your tears can be blue too but I didn't cry!

You'll be fine. Dental injections are much worse.

    Hi there,

sorry you’re going through this but, as others have said, not as painful as you imagine it will be.

I had a tracer - not sure if that’s the same as your wire- after the local, I didn’t feel a thing. Like Moresleep, I had the blue dye during surgery so didn’t know about that Rofl - some bruising afterwards but nothing compared to the bruise I got from the lymph core biopsy!

Hope it all goes well x
