Is it normal for temperature to be constantly be going up and down during chemo treatment? I feel like I have to check every 20 mins
Hi Hope
I think temperature changes are very common with chemo. Mine certainly went up and down. Add in the current outside weather conditions ....I think everyone's temp is fluctuating without adding on the chemo. No wonder you feel unsure......
However, don't ignore very high temps. Your unit will have told at what point to phone in or go to A and E. Mine was 38.5 but I think many are a bit lower. It is important to eliminate infection.l know this causes lots of chemo patients worry.....Is it too high? Should I phone? How will I know?.....but from my own experience, your body tells you what to do. You will know when you need to discuss your symptoms with a bc nurse or a doctor.
I hope you feel a bit more confident this morning but if you find taking your temperature regularly keeps your fears at bay.....well, what does it matter? The only thing that matters is that you manage and control the side effects from chemo in a way that suits you.
I hope it goes well. It will be over before you know it however unpleasant the next few months might be.
Love Karen
