Hi all,

I am 15 months post chemo. Today I am feeling very low about my wirey grey hair and grieving for my beautiful sleek Pre cancer caramel bob.

I know I need to be grateful for the great treatment I have. I am usually positive. But today I feel so sad.

My hair is dry, wirey like a scrubbing brush and salt and pepper grey.

Any hope that at least the condition will improve so I look less grim?

My hair was like that at about the same stage. Het a good quality shampoo and conditioner and use regularly I kept mine short

  • Hi , firstly we know you are grateful for the treatment you had but you ARE ALLOWED to feel pissed off, angry, grumpy, sad and anything else you want to feel. Because you know what it isn't easy and we've all been there! Waiting and waiting for that day when you look in the mirror and you see 'YOU' again, looking back at you!

IT WILL HAPPEN! It just takes time Hun!

As for things that might help! Well strangely enough, for me, as I know we are all different. Going to the hairdresser and getting mine coloured really helped the condition! It was a plant based dye, so know chemicals but it just made me look and feel more like me! Then i changed to a shampoo/conditioner containing Keratin! After just one wash I could feel the difference! I then tried to work out how often I should wash it and I now only wash it once a week! IF I do it more often it gets dry again!!

Its finding what works for you! Also don't stick to one shampoo! After a month or two or when you feel the shampoo isn't working as well, change. You'll be surprised at what a difference it can make!

Just don't lose hope Hun, that day will come. But before then you might have a few more Crap days...  that's okay you know where to come to vent your feelings! Take care Hun. Sal xxxxx

    thank you. Xxx

mind over matter not the point today.

  • Have you tried grow gorgeous hair products? I am 6 months after last chemo and hair has grown an inch or two - wavy and salt and pepper but still soft. I treated myself to some of their products at the beginning but now just use shampoo...available online or in bigger Boots....worth a try.

My first hair cut next week....I dream of having a ‘style’ !

Hi, . As soon as I finished chemo I started using New Shampoo bar from Lush. I had heard it would stimulate new growth and am happy with the result. My hair is growing well, is curly and very soft. I was grey before I started and still am but that's fine by me.

You are so allowed to have days when you feel low but just know that there will be less of them the further away from treatment you get.

    Hugs x

  • Hi

I didn't have chemo, so didn't lose my hair - but I'm Oestrogen reducing tablets which has 'aged' my hair really quickly.  Same results - dry, wirey and going grey.

I asked my very experienced hairdressers (they've had salons in London, Ireland, Spain etc - came to my countryside town to semi-retire - lucky for me!!!) what I could do about my hair and was told to get shampoo and conditioner with keratin in it.  I buy my keratin shampoo and conditioner and a keratin oil from the supermarket (£7 per bottle)  I wash and condition and then before I dry it, I spray the keratin oil - it really has made such a difference.

    Best wishes,

Thank you I shall try that.

  • Sea kelp tablets too

Not for too long though as they can affect the liver

One year on my hair is better than it ever was

    Thank you Leolady56

i shall look into sea kelp. Sound good. I will research it. I have no problem with amount of hair... it has returned so thick but the wirey woolly texture is horrible.

I have bought some keratin shampoo and conditioner today. I have also bought an oil to put in it.

Are you one year on from chemo or one year on from me. I am 15 months post chemo now.

    Hi Kate,

I-went to a Look Good, Feel Better session and was given something called Nioxin which is actually for thinning hair however it’s supposed to help with regrowth after chemo and is supposed to help cleanse the scalp. My hair feels quite soft.

I have only used it about 3 times as my hair has only just started growing back. I used the simple range just before and during chemo.

I had a bit of grey before, so I’m expecting the salt and pepper look too. I’ve heard of plant based colours before so will look into that myself.

Let us know if you do use the Keratin based shampoo and the outcome.

    Best wishes Tina x x
