It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since I went to see my Gp who referred me to the urgent 2 wk wait breast clinic. I called the clinic secretaries today who have apologised but unfortunately the clinics are now breaching and I won't be seen until after 1st August.

  • Are there any other clinics your GP could check for earlier availability? In London the are a few for each health authority,  but I suppose it depends where you live. Some  consultants have now cut some of their extra sessions (see the BBC News today or papers)

  • Hi

Wow! that is a long wait and must be a really difficult time for you not knowing... the wait is always the worst part.  Could you ring the clinic back and tell them that you will be happy to have a cancellation - last minute call from them to get yourself seen?

If you keep ringing them, they might get fed up of you and get you in just to 'shut you up' type thing.  I have found in the past (when my Dad had a second stroke) and the doctors hadn't assessed his scan that if I annoyed them enough they would eventually take action. They got so fed with me constantly asking when the doctor was going to review the scan that they sent me home.... so I called them every half hour... within 2 hours of this, they found the doctor to review his scan and put him on the tablets he needed.

Make a nuisance of yourself and they'll prioritise you I reckon eh?

It doesn't help the fact that I will be in Majorca from 22nd July til 1st Aug but she said she wouldn't have appts until after then anyway. I

I will keep calling until then. My employer knows and is aware i will need the time off at short notice.

After another phone call I've finally received an appt for Tuesday 17th.

  • Hi

Brilliant news that you've managed to get in before your holiday.  I know you will have more waiting after that appointment, but try and put it out of your mind after you've attended the clinic and enjoy your holiday to its fullest.

  • Really pleased you have got an appointment. But the two week referral is only a guideline - it is not set in stone. And unfortunately it very much depends upon where in the country you are based!! Here in Wales I had to wait over 4 weeks.
