Hello to all of you wonderful people, who are currently going through radiotherapy and welcome to July's Radiotherapy Chat.
This is a place where you can offer support , ask for advice, receive support and just query anything involving radiotherapy. A couple of quick tips, if you're driving to your radiotherapy appointments each day, or any time, ask if your hospital offers free parking for people going through treatment, or if they have a voucher for a discount off parking fees, which a lot of hospitals do offer. Also, try to keep the area moisturised with a fragrance free lotion, to help with soreness. You'll find want more tips along the way on this thread.
For more tips, heres our Radiotherapy Tips Page and I'm sure you all have some of your own tips to share, and ones that people post that you will find useful.
Heres also A link from the Macmillan Information pages, which also includes a helpful video that some of you may want to have a look at.
This is the link to June's Chemotherapy Chat for those of you who would like to see how the thread works, or to just have a look back at last months chat and see what you can find out from others. It will be locked shortly from replies, but you can still take a look.

Yep, Just one more to go for you and I AnnJac. How are you doing, I am starting to blister a bit and getting knackered. But we will both be ringing that bell tomorrow. Go well everyone else. xxx
Sorry you're getting blisters polly dog. Have they given you cream and dressings. I'm to see nurse tomorrow. No breakthrough yet but my scars and there are very many, are now looking very red. Radiologists said the nurse may give me some cream as RT effects continue for another couple of weeks.
Hope everything settles for us noth quickly. No bell for me as treatment and scans continue - but you ring it nice and loud with a big smile!
Keep going everyone - hope RT is kind to you all xx
Hi there everyone,
AnnJac, hope all is going well just over a week post treatment. Went back to Radio today as blisters getting really sore and not great, been given some healing gel to apply twice a day. Applied it once and it has formed a film over the area, not sure if I am supposed to peel it off, as it is already beginning to, to apply the second coat today - does anyone know. I didn't get the best advice from the nurse on this occassion I'm afraid.
How is everyone else getting on? It is good not to be going to the hospital every day, kind of liberating. Hoping to go away for a few days on Friday, a friend has offered to drive so it sounds like a great plan.
love and hugs to everyone on Rads this month. It will come to an end I promise.

Hello everyone on Radio Therapy this month.
I have just been looking for some advice on the forum and found loads of information at the very beginning of this thread - April 2017, including mention of a cream called R1 and R2. Too late for me, but it sounds as if if you use it from the beginning of treatment you lessen the possibilities of a skin reaction hugely. Also loads of other tips in the forum that month as it was the beginning of the thread and obviously Macmillan had asked people to contribute tips and advice.
Hope you are all getting on well. Additional info on me, I had a Bolus during treatment to have more rads in the skin as my tumour had been quite close to the surface, so it isn't too surprising that I have some difficult reactions coming through. Hope everyone else is doing a lot better.
Rainbows, hugs and love to all here.

Hi Pollydog
My advice is don't peel. The film should protect it. But that's my gut feeling. My skin not doing too badly no breakthrough yet but an itchy rash to my chest that is irritating. Nurse gave me some gel to use if it does split.
Been tired but ok. I'm away for a family holiday on Friday. The plan is to bbq lots and men live bbqing so hoping to be waited on.
Hope all improves for you soon.
Oh annjac. Thank you. You are amazing. Glad we are accompanying one another. Good advice which I will follow. Anything I can do to be alongside you. We all have such different paths through
Lots of love hugs prayers and now rainbows

Hi everyone out there and lovely Annjac who s
wondering if this is normal. Now sixteen days post radio finishing and feeling worse and worse. My breast is very red and angry. It has peeled lots and has another layer of hard tight scales skin over it. I have tried to keep going with some normal activities but this morning just had to retreat to bed as it hurts less when horizontal and also my head is thumping again and I am feeling really dizzy. Yesterday was my birthday and I tried to be as normal as I could for my kids but I don’t think I can keep it up at the moment. House is a mess as doing any tidying/housework is tricky and painful and so feeling very low as well. Spoke to radio nurse on Tuesday for my review and she just said it sounds ok and as if it’s getting better. I don’t know if I was too up beat with her. She rang at a point when it wasn’t as bad. They don’t see you at my hospital post rads until you see the consultant six weeks later and I don’t know if this is normal. I’m also feeling really guilty as I had a lovely appointment for a look good feel better session at the Macmillan centre this morning which I had to cancel as I can’t drive as it is too painful to wear a seat belt. Sorry to whinge but really hoping someone might know a bit more than me about all this and be able/willing to advise/help. So sorry not to be more positive.
Love and hugs. Xxx
Oh . That doesn't sound right at all. I think you should ring the RT team again and ask them to see you urgently. My team rang me on Tuesday and checked I had their numbers and to ring of all worried. So you must ring them again and tell them how it really is. You have nothing to lose.
I have been lucky with RT and no major issues. Plenty of other major issues but this bit has gone ok.
Ring them pollydog and come back on here and let us know what they say.
Gentle and caring hugs xx
