Sorry to bother you all.
I had a CT chest, abdomen and pelvis scan yesterday and my breast care nurse called me today to tell me the scan wasn’t clear so they need to do an MRI. Has anyone had this happen to them? I just want treatment to start ASAP but I can’t until these results are in.
Thank you Linbo x
That's very fast for results! Is not unusual to find things on these scans, but usually they are unrelated. I've seen posts of issues with gall bladders and appendix mentioned on threads, and I had an MRI with contrast on my liver for s small cluster of blood vessels, even though the report said was not related and not a health issue. My oncologist stopped any treatment (my anxillary clearance) until it was done and she knew ther results a couple of weeks later as thr scan had to be booked. I was frantic as one of my sentinel nodes was positive, and I was scared it would spread in the time it took, so my surgeon pencilled me in for two weeks later rather than making the appointment after ther results were in.
Did the nurse say what the MRI was off? When are you seeing your oncologist?
I had CT yesterday and was going tomorrow for results but breast care nurse call this morning to say it wasn’t clear and they had recommended me have an MRI instead. So now I’m waiting for the MRI appointment to come through but she said she will call me. She also said she wanted me to have bloods too. I know they are being thorough but the waiting is horrible. Xx
Hi,
It is so worrying when nothing gets properly explained......I do understand how frantic you must be feeling. But don't forget that a CT and an MRI do show different things. The MRI will be far more accurate for clarifying the areas you had scanned yesterday. When they say ' not clear'......it could simply be it hadn't scanned clearly....
So yes, they are being thorough which is better for you in the long term but yes again.....there is no one here who won't agree with you, that the waiting is the worst part. It will pass and you will soon have a plan but in the meantime......can you do something nice? Meet a friend for lunch? Go shopping and treat yourself? Go out at the weekend? We went away for a week when I waited for my biopsy results. It had been booked previous to the biopsy but when I asked if I should cancel I was told ' no' because the biopsy results would take 8/ 10 days and there was nothing that could be done in between. I was always pleased we did that trip because it took a long time during and after treatment before I had enough energy to go away again. I remember we were a little extravagant....and I have such good memories of the week. I can't pretend I forgot to worry for the whole week but there were times when I was distracted by my surroundings and situations and did relax and enjoy it.
I hope you don't wait too long for the MRI appointment. Keep in touch with everyone here and we'll be waiting for more news with you....
Love Karen
