I am a bit anxious about this I must admit. When may I get the result? Going to see breast care nurse first. They are already talking about mastectomies ! I feel like it’s running away with me.

  • Hello,

I agree the thought of the MRI can make you feel a bit anxious. I had to have one last week. When I had the first one my oncologist gave me good advice.....she told me to close my eyes when I lie on the bed and leave them closed during the procedure. That way you don't see where you're going or get dizziness as the machine moves around you. I usually find I quickly doze!...The clinic I go to plays music through the head phones.

The fact you are having the scans is actually a good thing because the doctors will have a clear picture of your situation and can make accurate judgements from them. As for the results.....I suspect you will have to wait as that usually seems to be the situation in the UK. It makes me cross because it isn't necessary. I live in France and after each ultrasound or scan, I took the results away with me. Out of interest I timed my last mammogram. .....4 minutes before the doctor gave me the result and he talked me through the ultrasound as he did it.....

I hope today goes well without any problems and you don't wait too many days to know the next step. Treatment however difficult is the step towards recovery.

    Love Karen

    • My scanner centre plays music too. In fact they suggest u take a CD with u.  I take the same one each time then I know how far thru the process I've got. Also, I particularly like the songs/ singer on it - Josh Groban, an American baritone. I also close my eyes during the whole thing.
    • I say " each time" as I have routine CT n MRI scans every 3 to 4 months. My oncologist does a good job of monitoring me!
    • Hope u get the results soon. Fingers crossed for u .
    • PS don't know where bullet points have come from lol
Fear of the unknown is the worst thing. Once we know what we're facing, we find the strength to deal with it.
