hi everyone, I'm on Letrozole for 6 months now. My recent blood test shows high cholesterol 7,4 besides good and healthy diet. This happened also in the past before Letrozole. I know high cholesterol is one of side effects of this drug. I wouldn't worry about this result but read recently that statins could actually support less chance of recurrence of cancer . Is any of you been prescribed statins for high cholesterol and how are you coping as it is also have side effects
warmest regards
Gabes
Hi Gabes
I'm sorry to see that no one from this group has been able to answer your question yet. It could be that no one in this group has the right experience to help or just that they haven't seen your post yet. By replying it will 'bump' it back to the top of the page where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who can help.

Not on any meds but as I’m diabetic they check my cholesterol regularly. It was high but now I follow a high fat, low carb diet my cholesterol has dropped and my trigs are brill.
I follow low carb diet as all carbs turn to sugar so would increase my reliance on drugs. When I say high fat I mean I don’t avoid fat so have butter not Marge and cream on my food! I don’t eat red meat or fish as I dislike . So mainly chicken in sauces and veg grown above ground. I take metformin and there is some research in this preventing recurrence if BC but my doctor hasn’t heard of.
Hi Gabes, have you been presciribed statins yet?
My cholesterol was fine until I started Letrozole, and it is higher now. It was only questioned when I developed hypertension. I refused the statins as I knew there were some quite nasty side effects, and I felt I had enough of those with the Letrozole! I was on a good diet. Fast forward to my colon cancer diagnosis in 2017, and I was referred to a lovely cardiologist as my BP was uncontrolled. He really sorted me out and got me fit for surgery. He did prescribe a statin, as research showed a higher percentage survival rate for major surgery but I could not bring myself to take it. Unfortunately post surgery I have had several episodes of intestinal obstruction due to adhesions, so my healthy diet has has to be modified somewhat. I still don't want to take the statins, and make sure I do not gain any weight, and exercise as much as I can. It is all a balance, and you have to weigh up pros and cons. Good luck xx
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi Seaspirit44, I've been on letrozole for 2 months and I have high BP. The doctor put me on amlodipine 3weeks ago but so far, although it's lower, it's not low enough. I take the amlodipine in the morning and the letrozole in the evening, of course, they are cancelling each other.
