After 2 lumpectomies in 4 weeks, I had the wonderful news of no more operations just need radiotherapy.  Can anyone advise me on what sort of cream I should use to help my skin ?

    That's fantastic news T10,

I've just had my fifth of fifteen today. I have been using Aveeno and just some plain aqueous cream. Just make sure there are no perfume in it. I also bought some simple soap to wash with as you need to make sure you have removed all creams before you go for your treatment xx

    Hi

I had twenty treatments 12 years ago and just about to do groundhog day. I used the QVC aloe Vera from SBC then. It was the only one available at the time.

They did give me some cream no idea what and some dressings I had to search West Yorkshire for, but I eventually found.

I remember saying to my husband " If you see a small round pink thing on the floor it will be my nipple. Don't throw it away."

My surgery on the 18 th.

I also remember thinking around treatment 12 " I've got away pretty well with this, no problem so far.!"

At least this time too much Sun exposure won't be an issue!

  • Hello ,

I have read that some of the ladies on here use R1 and R2 cream, they have it on prescription (I'm guessing from their Doctors).

I don't know if you are aware there is a group for Radiotherapy, it seems to run from 'month to month' - it might be worthwhile having a look on that thread to see if there is any extra information.

I'm pleased to here you are though your surgery now, hopefully, all this will be a distant memory.

    Hello ,

I am sorry you find yourself here, I imagine everything has changed a lot since they and hopefully for the better.
We are all here for you, any question or concerns you have there is always someone about that can possibly help.
If you have any worries during the evening time there is a thread called 'Awake" this is good as there is (sadly) always someone about most times - its the 'go to place' regardless of how we feel, if we down it can pick us up, if we are worried someone will pop along to try to easy our concerns.

Whilsing you all the very best for the 18th - don't be a stranger, you are now a 'Fruit Loop' part of a special group of Fruit Loops.

Sending love and hugs to you both xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

    Hi what happens,

    You cannot imagine the changes.

Breast cancer nurses did home visits. I had a lumpectomy and ALL  the lymph nodes removed. I was in hospital a week.  I still have the tattoos from radiotherapy.

I've had twelve years cancer free and here I am again. Sort of ground hog day.

I took part in MRI research which is now acted upon. I've lost a very good friend she wasn't as lucky as me.

And I still need some one to hold my hand.

  • Hi ,

Wow it has changed 'a lot' - most that have lumpectomy these days are out the very same day (depending on the time of day they have the operation)..... and we can say 'Thank You' to You for taking part in the MRI research - that is now available and helps us all.. "Thank You".

I had lumpectomy, I could not believe how 'pain free' the recovery was for this, I am not brave - but, well, I still find it hard to believe we can have such an operation and have very little to no pain.  I will say honestly the worst part pain wise for me was the lymph node biopsy area - this wasn't pain as such, it was a strange 'stinging sensation'.

You will have plenty of us here to hold your hand.  In truth, we all need someone to hold our hands.

I was lost before I found this site, mentally I was not in a good place, the Fruit Loops reached out to me, helping with worries, questions, concerns, etc this will be 2 years in September since joining here. (2 years my this time has flown).

Before I go and feed the cats and get an early (wish) night, please remember, you are not alone - we are all here for you.

Sending Hugs and holding out a hand for you xxx

  • In my radiotherapy clinic we were prescribed hylaronic cream. This was 3 years ago and it was very efficient. I used it from day 1 as advised. Whatever you choose to use, don't wait until you've got a problem, use it from the start. The aim is to keep the skin moisturised then as others have said, make sure you go for the therapy with clean skin. Use a non perfumed soap to wash with. I had 33 sessions and never burnt. Since I went for treatment, hylaronic acid cream has become very popular in beauty products as a product which traps moisture into the skin so it suddenly made sense to me why it worked so well preventing radiotherapy burns.

I wish all of you going through treatment good progress. I have reached almost 4 years since I was diagnosed with triple negative bc now and am back to living!
