Chemotherapy and Hashimoto's disease

Hi everyone,

I've recently been diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer.   I've had Hashimoto's disease (auto-immune thyroid disease)  for over 7 years and have only been feeling well for the past 18 months.  I'm really concerned at what effect chemotherapy will have on my thyroid meds (since it's highly likely that I have no working thyroid left after 7 years of antibody destruction).  Does anyone on this forum have Hashimoto's disease and the DIO2 faulty gene which means I struggle to convert T4 to T3?  Can  you offer me some advice please?

I don't yet know what the name of the chemotherapy is, just that I have 2 types, 3 cycles on each with Herceptin injections starting on the 4th cycle.  Cycles, every 3 weeks, herceptin injections every 3 weeks for 1 year.  Daily radiotherapy for 3 weeks, then Letrozole for 10 years.

Thank you.

Hello (That's what my nana use to call us when we were little) First can i welcome you to the community none of us really want to be a member of, but believe me when i say its the best place to be under the circumstances.

I can't help with your diagnosis but i do remember reading someone else's post about being triple positive, so hopefully they will see this and respond to you.

As for your chemo it sounds like you have having similar cycles to some of us. Was it possibly EC-T or FEC-T.

There is a June Breast Cancer Chat group, these are done every month for people who are going through chemotherapy or have been through chemotherapy. I found it helped me because there were people going through the same as me or could give me advice and support when there were things i was unsure about or worried about.

There is also an Ask the Nurse thread where you can questions you think she may be able to help you with.

Big Hugs and keep talking to us xxx
