Hello to all of you lovely people, and welcome to June's Radiotherapy Chat. Where are the months going!
This is a place where you can offer support , ask for advice, receive support and just query anything involving radiotherapy. A couple of quick tips, if you're driving to your radiotherapy appointments each day, or any time, ask if your hospital offers free parking for people going through treatment, or if they have a voucher for a discount off parking fees, which a lot of hospitals do offer. Also, try to keep the area moisturised with a fragrance free lotion, to help with soreness.
For more tips, heres our Radiotherapy Tips Page and I'm sure you all have some of your own tips to share, and ones that people post that you will find useful.
Heres also A link from the Macmillan Information pages, which also includes a helpful video that some of you may want to have a look at.
This is the link to the June radiotherapy chat for those of you who would like to see how the thread works, or to just have a look back at last months chat and see what you can find out from others. It will be locked shortly from replies, but you can still take a look.
Whatever reason you find yourselves here, just remember you're all so strong, amazing and simply the bravest. You've got me again this month! And we are always here for you. You'll always have your Macmillan family here for you, which includes other members who have helped you and been there for you.
Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you,
Alex xxxx
Lovely to spend the time waiting for the running very late radiotherapy chatting with the lovely who came early for her appointment so we could have lunch together. Little did we know that not only was I going to be about an hour and a quarter late going in they couldn't get the images they needed so then had to go to another machine. We eventually went for lunch at about 2.20! Hope they had made up some time and you didn't have to wait too long and didn't need to change machines .
4 Down ....
Appointment was 3.30 I got in a 4.50 so not caught up at all lol was lovely seeing you and being able to have a good catch up.
Managed xrays fine and radio done in 10 minutes.
8 down 7 to go!!! Past the half way mark whoohoooo!!!
Hello Ladies,
I'm feeling really whoosie right now.
Almost a month post rad and the skin under my boob has blistered and broken .... it's so sore. I've been in touch with the rad team and the GP but it's healing so slowly and then ... I'm like crying at stupid things and then fine and then crying again....
And I just needed to whinge so thank you ladies for letting me vent .....arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
Much better already x What's that saying ... a problem shared is a problem halved xxx
Hi Ann,
Wondered if you meant me Sophie for a moment. Just got on to the community for the first time since starting and before. Been trying to make up time at work as I have now had my last day - yesterday - for a while as having worked through since diagnosis, I am shattered and don't think I will cope with this last stage if I keep working. Particularly as my youngest son is really struggling with his anxiety and autism and needs pretty constant availability at night as he isn't sleeping.
How are you getting on? Had my fifth one this morning, expect you are having your's this evening. Beginning to feel more tired and sore, not too bad though, but I do recognise the dizzy sick feeling. I wondered if it was just nerves. I seem to hyperventilate whenever the buzzy noise of the radiotherapy machine goes off even as I lie there thinking that this is fine and I should really relax.
Really grateful for all the posts here. Hadn't realised I should wash any moisturizer off before RT as I have been doing the opposite, showering first thing, then moisturising with E45 or Aloe Vera and then going in for treatment. I will do it the other way around in future. Thanks everyone. Will keep in touch better now as I really value this and have felt very alone with it all over the last little bit. Which has made it all a bit dark emotionally and useless mentally.
Keep going everyone, and ring that bell for me when the time comes as I haven't seen one anywhere at Peterborough hospital to ring myself.
Love and hugs

Hi Scriptfan,
Just wanted to say that your grand-daughter Bonnie looks so very beautiful - wow and soon you will have time to be with her as Ann says. Also whilst we haven't met, all your posts say you are certainly not selfish and I am afraid that some people just won't understand, but it is hard when it is family. You take care and look after yourself. Bless you and thank you for your posts here.
Hugs xxx
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.with your.skin Maz. Have they given you something for it? I've only just finished but have been given some gel stuff - aquagel & today Activon (made from makuna honey) and some special dressing cAlled Polymem which apparently will help it heal. I have the same as you - a split underneath. It's uncomfortable. But the dressing certainly helps if I've got a bra on.
Hi Daisydoo
I've got the polymem dressing and the GP gave me hydrocortisone cream but I got that a bit late and it stung like hell. Rad team advised not to use anything but the polymem. The dressing definitely helps with bra wearing lol!
Good luck xxx
Thank you so much for your kind words it really is appreciated.
I'm overly emotional at the minute with the birth of Bonnie, radiotherapy let alone the rubbish being thrown at me. But as i have realised over the last year, life is too short to spend worrying over negative people.
I have far too many people who love me, even when i am being selfish to worry about those that don't.
Hope you get through your radiotherapy with little or no discomfort xx
. Apparently the cream underneath helps the healing so not sure you want to ask for it. The new one today - activon is really weird (it is exactly like honey) but seems to be promoting the exudate stuff (the yellow stuff) which helps the new skin regrow. Well I have more anyway!! The other one helps the polymem stick.
It's my armpit that is the most uncomfortable
Hope it's not too uncomfortable for you and you heal up quick xx
