Hi Guys....I’m new to the group and had my op yesterday, it’s all been a bit of a whirlwind. I was diagnosed as having stage 2 Invasive breast cancer on Wednesday and as I said had my op yesterday. While I feel very lucky not to have had a long wait, i was still very stressed. During the op they also removed lymph node/s. I don’t know how many were removed as I only saw nursing staff afterwards. It seems  I’ll have to wait until my next appointment which will be 2-3 weeks away, it’ll  feel like a very long time. Is this the norm?

My shoulder feels okay, I expected it to be more stiff. Does it stiffen with time or do you feel it immediately? Really hoping that this is it as I fell while out running and broke my other shoulder recently, could be doing without them both feeling sore and stiff Rolling eyes

I’ve not had a look around the site yet but I’m sure I’ll find lots of good advice. Who’d have thought we’d end up being part of this community. Cry

Hello  like you say "Who’d have thought we’d end up being part of this community". Not one any of us would have chosen but in the circumstances its the best place to be. Its an amazing place full of support and advice.

Wow!!! You have been in a bit of a whirlwind, not even a week to wait for your op, thats fast.

Which op did you have? Was it a lumpectomy or a mastectomy? Was you given exercises to do after your op?

I know i was with both my lumpectomy and my mastectomy. They are to prevent your arm and shoulder getting stiff. If you have make sure you do them they really work. If you haven't then ring your breast care nurse and tell her you haven't been given any exercises to do.

2-3 weeks seems about right for the wait for results, i know i waited for 4 weeks for some of mine.

Please have a look around and ask any questions you may need the answers to, there are lots of us around to show you the ropes, offer advice and give you all the support you need.

Take it easy remember you have had surgery even if you feel well, look after yourself.

Thank you very much for your reply. It was a lumpectomy that I had, I was also given exercises to do, which I have done. It’s good to know that it is the norm to wait this amount of time.

My hubby is happy to hear you telling me to take it easy. He’s just said I never listen to him, which I do Stuck out tongue winking eye I’ve no doubt done far too much today and will need to learn to be still and patient at times.

  • Hi ,

I was the same as you. I went to see my surgeon on the 15th Oct last yr and went for my op on the 20th as it was his rotation for weekend surgery, although I had a mastectomy not lumpectomy.

I had 21 nodes removed 3 weeks after my mastectomy but luckily I’ve not had a problem with my shoulder. Just do your exercises but listen to your body as well. If you feel tired rest, your body needs to heal which takes up a lot of energy.

    Best wishes to you x
