Hi All,

Im off to my Radiotherapy planning sessions later this afternoon. I had an appointment with the oncologist last week where I found out I was having Radiotherapy to my neck as well as the breast, which I wasn’t expecting.

Is there anything I should know, the oncologist doesn’t tell you? I really like to be as prepared as I can be, although I know things change all the time.

I knew what to expect with the radiotherapy to the breast but the neck too has thrown me a bit.

Thanks for any info or advice.

Hi i will follow your post with interest as i go for my planning appointment for radiotherapy on Friday. My surgeon wants me to have it to my boob and under my arm but he says he can't make that decision so will wait and see.

    Hope your appointment goes well.

    Hi

I think I am having my radiotherapy to my neck as well as my chest wall.  To catch any strays in the lymphs in the neck.  I had full node clearance under my arm and a full mastectomy.  Not sure if I am having it under my arm!  My planning appointment is on Tuesday.  Start mine on 12th June.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Hi

Setting off soon. I was rather hoping to start Radiotherapy the week after next as my girls are off next week and I wanted to be able to take them out.

Im in the Northwest so travelling to Preston everyday will be a bit of a bind but can’t stress about the things I can’t change.

I wasn’t too bothered about having my boob zapped as if it gets red or sore nobody will see it but can’t really hide my neck unless I go for polo neck tops and scarves not really good in warmer weather lol.

    Thank you x

    Hi

I had node clearance too, 21 in total. Yes oncologist said it’s belts and braces whatever that means lol.  I wonder if it’s a longer process, will have to ask.

Thanks, will let you know x x

    Hi again,

Planning session went well, apart from taking us 20 mins to park, but we were warned about that so left in plenty of time.

Had heart scan to see exactly where the heart is positioned in relation to chest wall and lungs.

I’m not having to hold my breath for the 20 seconds intervals. It’s to do with also having radiotherapy on the neck, which can effect the neck part apparently.

Got my 3 lil tattoos, which neither myself or my hubby could see without our reading glasses lol.

I start 6th June... I’m pleased about that as I can spend time with my girls while they are off next week.

    Wishing you all well

  • Hi . Hope you don't mind me popping in from another group, but I noticed you are having your treatment at Preston. I had my radiotherapy there at the Rosemere centre. Rather than driving, I made use of the volunteer ambulance car service who transported me every day. A great service. Downside is you cannot take anybody with you as they may have to pick up others. I recommend the toasted teacakes and coffee in the nice coffee lounge when waiting. I hope all goes well with your treatment. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

    Hi

Thanks for replying. They did mention the volunteer service but I want to be back for my girls at school time.

I was told I can ask, within reason for a time to suit me best, I know it’s not an exact time but the person I spoke to yesterday has put in a request for me explaining about the school run etc. Fingers crossed x

How did you access the volunteer ambulance service. I will be going for radiotherapy at Rosemere shortly and will struggle with transport.

  • Hi

I too am having my treatment at Rosemere. I haven't used the service but believe this is the number you need to call. If not I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

  • Hi . The reception staff at the Rosemere arranged it for me on my first visit for measuring up. The ambulance service get a copy of your daily timetable and a car picks you up each day. When you finish each treatment, report to reception and they call for a car to take you home. Great service by volunteers, mainly ex patients. Hope it all goes well for you. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
