A few weeks after I started to take Tamoxifen I noticed I started to have heartburn, something I have only suffered from when I was pregnant over 24 years ago.  I later started to belch.  My G.P. Prescribed Lansoprazole which has had some good effect but wondered whether others have experienced this.

    Hi

So sorry you have had to wait so long for a reply; it isn't normally like that here and I think your message dropped off the activity list as the group is such a busy place.

Heartburn and reflux can seem to come on, or increase for some as a side effect with tamoxifen and also the AI's like letrozole and anastrozole :(

Have you tried any other meds like pantoprazole, nexium or ranitidine prior to the Lansoprazole ? sometimes switching can find one that works better for you.

Hopefully replying will bump your question in case anyone missed it.

    Take care, G n' J

Hi  I too had terrible indigestion while I was on tamoxifen, I took lanzoprasole and also gaviston highest dose of both, did help a bit, but as soon as I was taken off tamoxifen it disappeared, I am now having chemo once again but hardly any trouble with indigestion, you could talk to your oncologist and mention it they might change your lansoprazole for something else. Hope you get it sorted.

    love and hugs Jenny xx

    Hi grannylara

thank you for your reply.  it’s comforting to know other ladies have had the same side effects on tamoxifen My gp has referred me to the gastro team and I’m now awaiting an endoscopy.  It feels like a constant round of tests and more tests and although I am so grateful for all the care I have had I do find them anxiety provoking now.  I’m sure ladies on here understand that.

But Thank you you again for your support and advise and I see my oncologist soon and will also mention it there.

Sending love and hugs to you and I hope your treatment goes well.

     Take care Phillipa6xxxx

Thank you G n’ J I’m just llearning how this forum works but I really appreciate your support and advise.

It’s reassuring to know other ladies also have experienced indigestion when taking Tamoxifen.

I will discuss my meds with my doctors as you suggested,   I am also awaiting an endoscopy which I’m not looking forward but I am grateful for all my care I have received from an amazing team of professionals.

    thanks again

    take care

Good luck with the Endo, hopefully it is the meds causing this and not a symptom of anything else.
