Hi all,

I’ve recently completed 3 weeks of radiotherapy & during my planning scan a shadow on my lung was detected. I was told this 2 weeks into rads.  My oncologist asked me if I’d been coughing much or was breathless which I haven’t & im not. However I’m booked in to have a body ct scan this fri 13th & as the date comes closer I’m feeling terrified! Has anyone else been told the same via a planning scan & if so what was the result? I had pleurisy 2 years ago & wonder if the shadow could be scarring?

Any thoughts/advice welcome. N x

  • Hopefully its the pleurisy. I had something similar, but it was a suspicious area on my spine found on bone scan, six months later they checked with MRI and nothing sinister found, praise God, but its flipping worrying.

Pleurisy is awful its bound to leave evidence, sending hugs xxx

  • Hi Nikki,

I was diagnosed with quite a large tumour and lymph node involvement (in Jan 2015) so the surgeon sent me for bone & CT scans to check for secondaries. This showed a shadow (or nodule) on the lung which he said could not be identified at that stage - it might just be the result of an earlier infection. I had to have a repeat CT scan after chemo (about 6 months later) which, luckily,  was ok.

Hopefully your shadow is also due to an earlier infection.

    Good luck!

    Nic.

Thanks for your reply snowys Mum. Pleased your scan didn’t reveal anything nasty... it really is a worrying time. Fingers crossed it’s some scarring from that pleurisy-oh yes it’s awful!

    Take Care xx

    Hi Nic

Thankyou for your reply. So pleased that your scan was ok & nothing nasty revealed. I’m definitely feeling more hopeful that I’ve just got some scarring from the pleurisy- fingers crossed.

    Take care. X

When I was diagnosed in 2013 I had all the usual scans.  The CT scan showed a spot on my lung.  I was told for some reason that they could not do a biopsy so I would be scanned again in the middle of treatment.  It ended up that I did not get scanned until almost at the end of treatment, I was told that the spot had decreased in size and to monitor for anything such as a cough or breathless.  It’s now almost five years since I got diagnosed and there are no obvious signs that anything is amiss.  I think sometimes we get scared thinking is their something lurking but my thinking is if it is going to come back i’l just have to deal with it as and when.

    Hope all is well

    Hi ladies,

I've had exactly the same thing happen. Had a CT scan on Saturday and when I saw my oncologist yesterday, he said they had found a spot or nodule on my lung which is too small to biopsy but they're going to treat it as not suspicious and rescan me after 3 chemo sessions. So here's hoping it's ok

Firstly this is my experience I am certainly no medic - unless watching Casualty and Holby count!!! I don't think so. NOOOO

Yup I certainly have found that they find other bleeping things wrong with me!!! Thanks docs I have enough on my plate.

Then again we do go through every scan and test known to the medical professional and I guess they do find other things to question. And if BC had not hit us we would all be none the wiser and not a thought to worry.

I too had the joys of pleurisy several years ago and boy did it hurt and yes I was left with a shadow for a while. Also after an x-ray for a chest infection they said 'ooh you have an enlarged heart'. Now all this wasn't what I needed but it did quickly get explained away when I finally saw a medical professional. Now because of this history, and my oncologist knows, he adapts what he is doing and sends me for more scans, just so that he can deliver the very best of treatment to me and my treatment wont harm me any more than it does.I feel sure your team are ding the exact same for you.

I think if you look at some other threads people discover they too have this things happen.

Now I am no medical professional but you are in the care of professionals who will soon find the answer and hopefully allay all your fears. Adapt treatment if needed. And be of great support.

Hoping that you continue to post and that you find this site a safe, caring and non judgemental place to be

    Gentle hugs

    Hi Leolady

Thankyou for your reply. Reading the other responses is reassuring that maybe I’ve been worrying needlessly. I’m hopeful that this shadow is scarring from the pleurisy. I’m not sure how long I will wait for the result of the scan ... fingers crossed not too long! Roll on Friday & get it over with.

Gentle hugs right back at you x
