It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Thanks Moomy. My legs felt like treacle climbing stairs last night !! This morning muscles feel stiff and knees creaky!!
yes we packing and trying to remember everything for a trip, leaving Saturday for 5 weeks to Sweden!!

we’ve had 4 week trips to Croatia, Scotland and Wales, so beautiful! May go to Spain next year, love to go to Ireland too.

retirement is wonderful most of the time. Got all my art gear, books on kindle, hubby downloading podcasts to listen to and dramas to watch.

a long time without seeing family, my mum and grandchildren especially.
    enjoy Littlehampton!

I’ve noticed that this thread has become a diary for you! Keep going I’m rooting for you!!

    More hugs J

  • Ooooh, enjoy Sweden! Sounds a fabulous trip, ! Hope the creaky knees ease off in time for you to enjoy yourself.

Yes, retirement has been interesting and good some of the time, though daughter began her saga as I got to retiring age, so cancer has been busy in all of us in turn since then. But we have had some good times as well as the tough ones. A very tight close family helped, I think, and barely a day goes by even now without a text or so from our (my, I should say) two, bless them.

Ireland is lovely; though I’ve only been to Dublin and the surrounding area, beautiful scenery and of course the black stuff tastes so much better there! Hubs and I ‘did’ the Scottish NC500 before it was called such, as you say, beautiful. I’ve been to several areas of Wales many times, and we’ve holidayed there. Hubs’ family was from South Wales and we spent a week with relatives in Llansteffan even before we got married. But I’ve climbed a bit in north Wales (before I met hubs) and introduced hubs to the Snowdon Horseshoe most of which which we also walked with the kids.

  • How inspiring Moomy! You are amazing (read your bio) and wonderful for you to have your 2 in touch so regular.

I do something then feel washed out, be another day or so like this. I still don’t have the aches tho…

  • Awwww, not amazing at all, I just keep muddling along!

i really hope that exhaustion eases off so you can enjoy your weeks away. (Littlehampton sounds a bit tame in comparison!)

  • Hope your knees and exhaustion are improving , ?

i did a two mile march into town and back to ensure I try and keep fit to walk when away on holiday, did need some more oil anyway just in case!

son popped round, had a look at the garden and has offered to water for me plus beat the blackbirds to at least a bit of the soft fruit, sadly this holiday is a bit on the late side, should have gone earlier, blackberries and blueberries are just starting to ripen! But he will pick and take some I hope. He also busied himself working out bus routes in Littlehampton for me, bless him! He’s busy trying to sort the extra teaching he’s acquired to leave himself two days off per week, he’s picked up so much!

Daughter facetimed for cooking advice, she hadn’t read her recipe right through, realising as she discussed it with me! She’s doing ok too.

  • Another too-early waking this morning….grrr!

But it seems I won’t have to do all day at the museum tomorrow, a colleague and fellow trustee is coming in to discuss training, around 2 pm and is happy to cover for me, bless him. So I can get home to pack and rest up, as I’m often a bit achey after a whole day there, a part day is better, especially as I spend the first hour or so getting up close and personal with the Bombe machine, it needs a weekly clean and oil and the enclosed area floor cleaning too.

I’ve sorted out much of the clothing I will need for the week, and have a good handle on food and drink needed, it won’t take too long to pack. I will be filling up with diesel on my way into the museum tomorrow, a scary thing to do these days!

  • You certainly need a mortgage before pulling into the forecourt! Don't overdo the bombe cleaning. It won't be that durty as you do it every week.......

Have a lovely holiday . Exploring a new place will be interesting. Lots of little harbours and fresh fish! I wonder where Great Hampton is or was?

  • Have a great time Moomy! Hope Bombe machine didn’t run away with you Flushed

im ok, tiredness hits me in waves couple of days and stiffness, but no aches and pains or nausea. So strange that SE seem different with 3 infusions.

all good to go of in MH tomorrow, or will be.

may post a photo or 2….. I have roaming, data depends on signal….

  • Safe travels ! And enjoy that break.

Just looked up Cahors, , looks beautiful.

the Bombe needs oiling twice a week, so i must check the oil reservoir tomorrow, plus there’s a high up bearing which the oil doesn’t always reach so I go to that with an oil can! The commutators (which the drum brushes connect with as they rotate and pass on the electrical tests) all get rather grubby, so do need cleaning carefully with isopropyl alcohol. They can miss a week or so but will be grubby when next done. And of course there’s a drip dray to catch the used oil and that needs cleaning! i know, technical stuff, but I’ve been doing it for a few years now, been a Bombe operator for almost 12 years and a trustee for about 4 years.

however your museum days are important to you and you enjoy it too!!

am feeling good and lists are getting shorter!!
my rest times I’ve been catching up on sewing bee. I sew but I can’t  sew under pressure or time limits. Some clothing they’ve made are so amazing!

I am proud of making some childrens dresses and skirts, dungarees and reused jean bags for adults and children in family!
