It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • A museum day; did the morning jobs plus we had a trustee meeting this afternoon, I didn’t get home till just after 4. But it’s great to realise I still had an hour of daylight! Noticeable now. I still feel clocks could change at the end of February…

knee gradually improving. I’m able to walk more naturally now, think just a few more days of tubigrip support then try an easy day without.

  • I'm surprised we don't all have webbed feet. It's not as cold as it was ,about 6 degrees up here in Yorkshire at the side of the Pennines. Some days it doesn't seem to get light.

Three more sleeps before my last EC chemo. These three weeks have dragged. My PIC line seems to irritate me more this week as they've told me it can be taken out this week too.

Good day in Bakewell yesterday and very interesting guided tour of Arkrights mill in Cromford today. However we decided against another night in the van. Splashing through puddles has limited enjoyment when you are nearly 70 and don't have red wellies.

    Kind regards to everyone.

Three times! What did I do?

  • Oh bless you  it’s been so miserable. But Cromford is a fascinating area, we spent a week in a cottage there, think it was a Landmark Trust one, which was quite historical too, had an old (done up of course) grate which we lit a fire in for quite a few evenings. Did you discover the second hand bookshop there?

  • I think I’m on too many meds…..every so often I take all the empty blister packs to Superdrug for recycling, I’m glad they get recycled rather than chucked in landfill….but I find I’m needing to do that a bit often! Sadly when I go there I find there’s usually stuff I’m tempted with in other shops….its too super-easy to pay!!! Joy

in other news, I’ve not worn the tubigrip on my knee at all today and have walked over 2 miles….-and no pain Fingers crossed

  • That sounds so good about knee & walking.
I know about meds & blister packs, so many!!!

good thing is I’ve had 3rd tooth out, paracetamol helps on 2nd day. Been taking it easy from dentist orders, no housework, crocheting & sketching.

ive washing to catch up on, so much rain!!

  • That’s one big worry done then,  let’s hope that’s all the dentistry you’ll need for a long time (well, apart from getting used to denture replacement, that is)

yes, taking it easy is the way to recover quickly. That washing will hopefully get done and dry eventually, just don’t rush it!

i know, I’m really pleased about my knee, i was a bit concerned about it but felt I needed to rely on my own muscles keeping the knee stable (vastus medialis for them who know!) which in spite of the aches, I’ve kept steadily exercised. I do a good hour or so of intervention at bedtime, anything from necessary massage and stretching of the rads-affected chest area, to wriggling my toes, with pelvic floor exercises in between! I sometimes think I should try and go to bed earlier Joy

  • Just done my exercises and taken blood pressure. It’s taken me a full 45 minutes!

I’ve been a morning taxi-run for daughter the last few days but I’m driving her over to collect her van tomorrow, it’s been having some work done, including fitting front and rear dash cam. So rush hour traffic has taken its toll and I’m feeling quite tired! Choir today was challenging too, glad I’d done some work on it before I left.

  • Started to go out for a walk, looked at the clouds and retreated; but it didn’t rain so I went out a bit later!

I know grey squirrels are a pest but they are also cute, this one had hardly a care in the world that I was near!

  • Hi Moomy I am with you on that one.  I love the squirrels I feed them, the birds and the foxes.  They are so cute.
