It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Sorry to hear your daughter needs an biopsy.  Hopefully she won't have to wait too long.  Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

  • So far the cruise is (I’m running out of superlatives) AMAZING!

Sadly one of the US contingent (my sis in laws sister in law on her other side) husband has mislaid his passport but the staff are being so helpful and are going to ensure he gets to the American Embassy in Vienna to get a temp replacement.

  • That was yet another fabulous day!

today so far, (we sailed at 10pm last night and through till 8am) we alighted at Melk (abbey of course, a fully functioning Benedictine Abbey , an essential ‘must see’) and are now in Dürnstein.

I say ‘we’ as of course I’m now with big brother and sister in law….(who, bless them, gave me this holiday as a present for turning 80)

  • What a wonderful birthday present. I am so jealous.  Mum and I talked of doing the same but she wasn't well enough to contemplate it by last summer.

OH and I are away too. We have come to the Pyrenees.  We had hoped to walk a bit and have a gite in a village which has all amenities so we don't need the car.....but it's 38° and the locals aren't liking it. Normally should be around 24°. Luckily we are used to weeks like this. We went out this morning to explore the village ( and I had completed my step count and more by midday.) This afternoon we are hibernating with the shutters closed in rooms facing the sun and will possibly stroll out again tonight. The rest will be good for us and thanks to kindle, I have access to books. But it is hot. We can't deny it.

These pictures are Saint Jean Pied de Port for those of you who know the Pyrenees.  It's very beautiful and on the famous Compostella de Santiago.

First view is St Jean and second is our gite and village.....St Etienne de Baigorry.  Look at the skies.  How blue is that?

How much longer is your cruise ?

I hope you continue to enjoy it.

  •   , interesting; lovely photos…..we have one day in Vienna tomorrow (a quartet concert from members of the Vienna philharmonic tomorrow evening) then Bratislava the next day, then Budapest the next, and disembark the following morning, 2 nights on the way in hotels as we go home on trains, I will get home late Saturday. This cruise really has been wonderful, relaxing in spite of the heat, this valley hereabouts has a micro climate higher temps than elsewhere and today I think it was around 32-33. I did walk up into Dürnstein which is so pretty, but it was hot to do very much. Luckily the ship has excellent air-con. Views have been spectacular. I’ve taken sooooo many pics!
the catering on board has been just to die for!

I’ve been able to keep up with the family in a group what’s app chat, and put some photos on there for them.

Made some new lovely friends, too, hope we can keep up.

  • I’m lying down in my cabin now to try and ease to ankle swelling from heat and lots of sitting, have the picture window open (a lovely gentle breeze blowing the net curtains) and I’m listening to cicadas in the trees lining the walkway out on land.
